Here's one that can be put together in a couple of hours:
Broker Art Pieces (paintings, sculptures, pottery, etc.) For Local Artists.
Here are the steps:
1.) Contact local artists and tell them you'd like to sell their works for a percentage of the asking price.
2.) Have them sign an agreement that covers your fee, exempts you from liability of the pieces and asserts that they won't compete against your efforts to sell their pieces.
3.) Contact local restaurants, trendy cafes, and hotels and ask them if they'd like enter into an arrangement with you to feature local artists' works in their restaurant, hotel lobby, etc. If they agree, have them sign a basic agreement as well. Mainly, you just want them to agree to let you 'lease' space at their location for the pieces. In most areas, an agreement like this can only be made legal if "consideration" (payment) is given in exchange for the leased space. Don't worry though, you can lease space for a year for $1.00 just to make it binding. You may also want to offer the location a percentage of the selling price if it's a hot location.
4.) After securing some locations, select pieces from the participating artists. Affix the name of the piece and the price to small price tags and put them on each piece.
5.) Bring the pieces around to your locations so that they can select which pieces they'd like to feature at their location. You'll also want to leave each location with an inventory list of the names of the pieces they have with the corresponding prices. When a patron purchases a piece from a location, the location owner will simply check off the "SOLD" box on the inventory list and make note of the payment received.
5.) Lastly, just stop by your locations every week or so to see which pieces were sold and to pick up the money. The location owner will simply give you the amount the piece was sold for minus their fee when applicable. You will then forward the artist their portion of the sale price and keep your percentage.
As you build a name for yourself in your community, you'll be able to represent more renowned artists and represent pieces with much higher ticket prices. Many of the higher end restaurants in my area feature paintings of local artists with price tags of $1,000 and up! It's not an exaggeration to say that you can easily get to the point of representing thousands of pieces. |
