Response to The origin of why salespeople are despised - and the people who despise them.

Mike,

I'll have to print that response. I could actually visualize that going on. Back in those days a club was used...I believe my wife now uses the dreaded breadroller. Much like the club, but it has more of a baseball bat effect (and it just isn't reserved for Salespeople, either.). LOL

Anyway, I know Salespeople have to make a living, too. I guess I've been approached too many times in my life by those thinking commission instead of my needs. Sounds simple, but that's the way it seems.

Back in 1989 I bought a brand new Chevy Berretta. I was in that lot for about twenty minutes before the Salesman approached. He asked the basic questions and gave me some space. When I was ready to do business he was there and quite the professional. I liked that.

Last year my wife was approached by a door-to-door Salesgroup. A guy and one woman. They were selling the high priced vacuum cleaner. I don't remember which one. We already had one (Rainbow). They were told this upfront, but continued on with their demonstration.

One hour and twenty minutes later, my wife again said she was not interested, replying "With Christmas on the way, we are putting our money into gifts and do not have much extra to purchase this item"

The Saleswoman (seeing the dozen red roses I had purchased for my wife for our anniversay) replied, "Oh, but I guess you had money for those".

Needless to say, it's good I wasn't there to hear that remark or she'd have been given a good deal of pepper sauce put in her sarcastic mouth.

Anyway, my main reason for posting, before I got off track, was about the Chamber of Commerce. Are you a member of your local chapter? Do you find it helpful and beneficial?

Best wishes and Success!

Rick C.
