Response to College Student needs help!

Hey there. I'm currently finishing up a degree in computers at a tech school. I do not wish to go into this field.

I'm probably going to get a marketing associates degree next.

I have a few questions :

1.) What kind of jobs are out there for marketing?

There really are quite a few. I just read one of your smart ass responses and i do agree with the fact that EVERYTHING you basically do has to do with marketing

2.) I like working with people. Is marketing for me?

I think so. I does not even have so much to do with working with people as much as it has to do with LOVING YOUR JOB

3.) Should I nab up any sales job out there for experience while I go to school?

I am a student in DSM, IA and i have to tell you, one of the things i learned is Marketing and Sales are NOT synonymous. Meaning they are not completley similar in meaning. Marketing tends to deal more with Price, Product, Placement and Distribution where as sales is more personal direct involvement with the customer to get the product out. A marketing professional might do research on social trends, or research on buying patterns, whereas a sales professional would go door to door, or b2b to sell there product.

4.) Will an associates degree cut it?

I honestly belive that it WILL cut it. It might not make me as much money as a Bachelors degree, however i can always take my associates degree and trasfer it to a B.A. Degree in Marketing. I like the idea of an associates degree for 2 reasons. #1. so i can get out there and find a job sooner so that i can #2. see first hand if Marketing IS for me, or if it is not. I look at it like this: at least i did not waste 4yrs trying to see if i liked it, or if it was for me. I would try maybe to speak with your school counsler to see if there are career assesment tests you can take, or go out on line and try to find some. They have been SOMEWHAT benifical to me. They help give me a direction

I'm really thinking Marketing might be for me, but I'm not sure. Help would be appreictaed.

I hope this helped, and please email me back if it did, or did not...either way.
