Response to Guess work

Yeah David, I thought I was reaching too far on that one.

I have not used Fruil since they changed to the new 'pin' system. The older style seemed to suffer from metal fatigue and loosened up quite a lot.

Because the kit's idler wheel teeth do not rotate, the non-working track is unevenly adjusted with the eccentric motion of the idler wheel mount (part E5). So, I think a set of workable tracks would be an easy way out. Since only Fruil makes a set for the Ferdinand, I thought I may have to give them another go.

Of course, I now suspect this is why DML wants you to construct the tracks in lengths and then assemble them around the suspension. This way, by attempting to tighten/loosen the track with the idler wheel motion, you only pull on a short length of track and not the entire track run (which if you assembled a complete run would be held stationary halfway by the drive sprocket teeth).

Maybe on this next Ferdinand, if the tracks still don't go right, I will model a 'mined' one by ripping off the PE front fender and just leave the idler wheel bare of any track . . . now there is an idea.

James
