It is always a big bonus to have a top shelf modeller review a kit and it's associated aftermarket items before you start in on it yourself.
I have been pouring over the three elefant articles in preperation of building a Ferdinand and I noticed on page 45 of issue 3, the lower photo shows some excess slack in the Fruil track. Because this doesn't appear as pronounced in the other photos, I suspect some additional adjustments were necessary.
Having built the Ferdinand before, I know the male-female track style and the eccentric adjustment of the idler wheel creates some difficulty in modelling the correct track tension. So although the DML's Ferdinand tracks, unlike the Elefant, are correct, I thought using Fruil's Ferdinand tracks may alleviate this problem and allow me to assemble and paint the tracks separately.
My question is: when using the Fruil tracks, is the modeller able to follow the amount of tracks outlined in DML's instructions (109) or was there another magic number?
(I ended up using about 3 more of DML's track links on each side, only to notice that they seemed to draw tighter after the kit was painted.)
