Good to see ya back, UK David. I missed you. I thought I was the only crusty one listing "10 worst songs" for a while.
"Hell Again"!!! LOL. You really are right about why the LATG era stands up so well- no sappy songs to skip. No songs to grit your teeth through. You could play a concert from start to end and not have any "low" points (SSB excepted. Neil would lead the audience in lengthy singlaongs, but at least he didn't hoarsely SHOUT at them). The material for the whole show was consistently strong.
IGYHWMT stuff done live usually goes over pretty well. Neil didn't sing the soppy stuff from that album live- even when he went cosmic ("Signs") it was pretty groovy.
I dont have Love At The Greek (everybody talks about this one too hmmm.) but I can tell you HANII is not one my favorite CD's. is nothing like HAN. So you saying Jonathan is on this album huh? hmmm might have to go a lookin'.
love at the greek has always been my favorite, more so than HAN, but if you are going to get it, try searching for the old album rather than the CD, (if you still have a turntable that is), or maybe even cassette tape, i think they left some songs off of the remastered CD.
Just stick with HANII and Gold. In my opinion Love At The Greek is not great. It's good but no way it's better than HANII. If You Know What I Mean is my favorite song but the Love At The Greek version isn't very good. So you could say that i'm not a big fan of his 70's concerts.
LOL...........that's what I get for posting with a bad case of "Diamond Fever". I'm in NY, headed for Albany with Lin & Cherie in the morning! Hell, I have duplicate LPs, that people seem to be missing, just thought I'd try to help out.
Totally agree, Love At The Greek is definately Neil at his best. At 27 ive only had the pleasure to see the 90's and 2000 shows and do wish i could have seen a live concert back then and definately at the Greek Theatre, what an atmostphere that place creates!!
Jade,
I do like Love at the Greek. My main gripe with the album is basically that the record company has screwed it up so bad. The video comes out...then the album, not even resembling the LATG video. Then when Sony puts it on CD the conviently leave off Longfellow Serenade and The Last Picasso. I think what would redeem this album is have Sony put it together the way it was played live in concert and then remastering the whole thing like they did HAN.
I do agree I like the song selection and the JLS encore. I just wish it was put out right the first time.
