If you had a price range it would be easier to give advice, but I would suggest either an Edge or a Warp/Octane. And for a pocket I like the Corner Pocket or the Shook Shakedown.

What I've heard

I'm new but I do know some of my lacrosse. My very good friend uses a vapor because of it's stiffness, however, it's so narrow he's had trouble scooping in the past. Some of the better defenders at my school use edges but so does any other position. Finally the one I've most heard for beginner to intermediate (not expert because then you probably have our own tastes and don't want to listen to advice)... is the edge plus. It's simply an edge, already a defense fave, plus more stiffness. What more could you ask for? It's freakishy stiff with all of those sidewall bars. most of my defending friends use hard mesh with just one or two nylon shooters with or w/o an inverted u. some also use the corner, some use trad. it depends on what you in particular are looking for.

I play D myself, and i have been using a plain edge with hard mesh. I occasionally use a old MX with corner pocket too. It may not be the best head, but it can take a beating. The wizard is also very strong, but heavy. It throws like a dream with the trakker pocket. Pockets that work well for D are just plain mesh, corner, and most of all the Cannon. It has a unbelievable hold.

If you like the onset stuff, I agree. The vector is tight!

I play defense too and i personally think that the debeer shock wave is the best head for defense because of its strength and flexibility. I use my shockwave with monster mesh and it works great. I also use it on a debeer titanium triax.
