Status Update

Dear Network54 Community Member,
First, let me say "I'm sorry." Clinton couldn't do it but I can. Because I mean it. Our server was down for several hours, and while it is running (faster) now, some older messages will not show until our data recovery efforts are complete. So if your login, forum, chatroom, or group is missing, we are working to hard have them restored. Please accept our sincerest appologies. It has been a real education in Murphy's Law.

We don't know when Murphy got started, but it was before we woke up Tuesday morning. Apparently Murphy started sometime on Monday, causing some overheating in our main server and fried one of the processors in the machine. But the machine, a real trooper, died and restarted itself without using the extra crispy Pentium. We noticed the site was slow, but couldn't figure out why. By Tuesday, it was dead.

Chris received the page, couldn't log in, and so headed down to Orange County to see the server face to face. He called me with the news: the server was smoking. Not the 'Pentium II with stangely colored lab coats' kind of smoking in the TV commercials. Real smoke. Not a lot, but enough by this point to have fried all the new components we installed. I guess I really wasn't motivated to go to the gym anyway....

Trying everything we could think of to get the network up and running, we used our backup server to take over for the main server. But there was one problem. That server had a backup from Oct 8. The main server had the live database as well as a continuous backup written to a separate disk. We figured one of disks had to be OK, so we hooked them up to the backup server and was ready to go.

Never hook up a SCSI disk to a motherboard with a built in SCSI adapter right after the drive came out of a smoking box. It will give you two smoking boxes.

So we enlisted the help of local data recovery experts, and Chris went to drive the disks over there. Of course you know the car wouldn't start, and I was just started on my hour and a half drive down by this point.

A couple of weeks ago we were real worried that our servers might fall in an earthquake. Taiwan had one. Mexico had one. Surely Los Angeles would soon follow. So we bought several cases for use in a rack system so our servers would not fall. Great idea, however the 7.0 eathquake hit this past weekend before we could install them. But we have them now!

In fact, our servers are installed in a pretty sturdy setup. But it took several trips to Frys Electronics paying more than online buying veterans are used to, in order to remake the insides of our servers. And it took time reinstalling the operating systems, services, and custom code. And new backup procedures.

So right now, 7:00am on Wednesday I think, the servers are up with new hardware running much faster than before. And by Friday we hope to have the missing messages installed. And we are now ready - come earthquake, fire, or high water.

Update: Friday, Oct. 22 1999: So far, we have yet to recover the missing messages. We are expecting an update from the data recovery experts on Monday or Tuesday. Sorry for the delay. Sincerely,

Steven Roussey

I think the Mighty Muffs will somehow pull out a Sacred Handgrenade of Antioch, and smite any rabbits that try to lay claim to having bigger teeth than Commissioner Gordon, in the end.

It will be close - but no "RUN AWAY, RUN AWAY!" will be heard being issued from Charles' Woods.

Press clippings...

by Mr. Dressup (no login)

I clipped this from a recent edition of Ping Tung News:

Spirit 0 @ Lizards 3

Oct 5 1999, by Demi Moore

"The convincing win also resulted in solidifying The Lizards Official Statistician Mr. Dressup's somewhat criticized claims in a recent NSHL Power Rankings he created for League Offices.

Since Dressup's predictions that "Time will reveal the smoke and mirrors associated with this seance!" his analysis seems about as accurate as any could EVER BE! Since White River's 7-0-3 start (when Dressup ranked them), The Spirit have a SUB .500 RECORD!, going 14 wins and 15 LOSSES!

Hopefully, the developments will finally have the naysayers reeling in their criticism of Dressup, and appologizing for their all too disrespectful attitude towards one of The NSHL's most highly rated and respected statisticians in the game today!"

Thanks, Demi.

New NSHL schedule

by Psycho Sedsey (no login)

Hello there,

In light of the news sent out to the mailing list by Commish Payne this morning, I would like to take this opportunity to open the floor to discussion on his offer: "If I do eliminate Friday games, I would consider
playing games on Saturday instead, if there was a huge demand to do so."

Of course it is to be pointed out that the Commishes' convenience in his new undertaking is of utmost importance in this matter, but if it is feasible I would like to see 5 game days a week continue.

A suggestion: Roster and Line submission deadlines are set for late Friday or some such, to give everybody a chance to evaluate their position without haste, and make changes accordingly, while not hampering or penalizing those that will be away over a given weekend. Then, for the convenience of our honoured Commish, the games could be played at any time on Saturday or Sunday, flexible to Ace's time demands and energy levels. This a system under which I see a "win-win" situation.

Any comments??

by Sexy (no login)

If Ace has the time, I would like to see 5 game days still. Or......what if on Thursdays, there were double the amount of games played??? I know that this can create confusion when players are injured but everyone has to play twice on one game day usually anyways. I like lots of games being played.

Game On!

by SunDog (no login)

Ok, here's something different.

Why not play 15 games (instead of 12) from Monday to Thursday for a consistent total of 60 games per week?

This way, there will still be 60 games played per week and Gord can still study (read: party) on the weekends.

On behalf of Ace...

From: "Gord Ace Payne" <acepayne@xxxx.xxxx
Subject: nshl: Daily schedule

Hi All,

The NSHL daily routine is in for some changes in the immediate future,
as in, starting tomorrow.

First of all, I should tell you that there will be no games tomorrow.
Fridays in the future are in doubt, as well. What is the reason for
this you ask? Well, your commish is returning to school starting tomorrow.

I'm going to leave the deadline of noon the same for now, until I determine
just how things are going to go next week, when I will be in class every day
from 8:00 am until 4:00 or 5:00. I'm thinking that sometimes I will be
able to play the games during the day at some point, and other days I won't
play them until I get home. It's too hard to say right now for sure.

Rest assured the games will get played sometime! You may not be able to count
on getting the results every afternoon, however.

I may have to eliminate Friday games, if I am unable to get it done at
school, as I still have to go to work every Friday night, so I wouldn't
have time between school and work. Was that a run-on sentence? Anyway,
as I get more acclimatized to the school situation, I'll have a better idea
as to how I will proceed. If I do eliminate Friday games, I would consider
playing games on Saturday instead, if there was a huge demand to do so.
Once again, we'll cross that bridge when the bridge keeper asks his
questions three.

By the way, nice word, eh? "Acclimatized"?

I hope you can all adjust to these changes without any medical, psychological,
or otherwise detrimental ill-effects. Was that redundant? Oh well, you know
what I mean.

Thanks, and good luck to me,

C.C., bar NONE!!!

by (no login)

There is NO argument.

Chris Chelios is BY FAR the best player in The NSHL.

Why?

The record speaks for itself:

Leading Scoring Defenceman last season, despite missing 5 games to injuries. Leading Goal Scoring defenceman last season.

BUT THAT WAS THEN, what about now!

Currently the 5TH HIGHEST scoring D-man despite missing 12 GAMES TO INJURY! Just 2 points down on Ray Bourque
Currently 5 leading GOAL SCORER for D-men despite missing 12 GAMES TO INJURY! Just 1 Goal behind Ray Bourque, and 6 behind the leader, Jeff N Brown, who has played 14 MORE GAMES than Chelios.

He is THE spiritual, inspirational, traditional, emotional, leader of The Lizards - when he is in the lineup, the Lizards have a chance to win, and MOST often do, against ANY TEAM in the NSHL!

His totals have been put up while playing with a team that has been ranked as low as 17th !!! on the NSHL Power Rankings! This guy has no Messier's/Fedorov's/Schaefer's/Phillips'/McCauly's to feed off of! He does it all HIMSELF !!!, for the most part! He has no Harvey's/Audette's/Bourque's/Thornton's/etc. to set him up, take the pass for the sure goal, etc. No, he has a team of JOURNEYMAN plumbers, basically, that HE has to carry along on his shoulders, not the other way around!

His Points per Game average is 1.375, SECOND only to Kenny Jonsson's MAGNIFICENT season (though again on a INFINATELY more powerful team than The Lizards are) of 1.456.

His Goals per Game average is the best in The NSHL from the blueline, .475.

He's simply, the best man playing out there, and has proven that for over two seasons now!

I agree!

by Chris C. (no login)

I AGREE! There is NO question in my own mind that I should have won the NSHL MVP Award last season, let alone The Robert Gordon Orr Trophy! Mind you, it was with the help of Joey J., John Le?who?, and Captain Whitney et al. that I carried the worst franchise in NSHL history to the NSHL Regular Season Bronze Medal!

This season, had I not been sidelined by a broken wrist, I'd once again be leading the D-man scoring race, and in fact probably be in a hunt for OVERALL scoring leader, as was the case before my injury! There was every chance in the world I was going to SHATTER Phil Housley's Goal Scoring record for defensemen before the injury too!

Since coming back from the broken wrist, knowing that the record was now probably out of reach, I have played a much more conservative, defensive style, helping The Lizards to losing just ONE GAME in the last 11!, tightening up the goals against. Yet at the same time, I have been quietly sneaking up the points ladder again, and now hold FOURTH in D-man scoring, even though I was out for a dozen!

On a team that on paper should not be doing as well as it has been lately, I'd say my play is worth TWICE as much as if I played for The Infantry or Muffs, The Thistles or Thieves, the Traders or Spirit, etc.

So, I agree. I AM the best player in the NSHL, and come contract time, Lizards Management are going to KNOW that! Hahahahaha

not yours,
Chris Chelios

Dispersal Draft

by SExy (no login)

Just for curiosity sakes,
Does anyone know how the number of 9 was decided
on for the amount of protection spots? It would be nice if every team could protect 2 lines, 4 dmen and one goalie.

IMHO,

by Artur (no login)

I would prefer to protect only 1 line and a goalie (that is 3F, 2D, 1G). This would indeed be a one round draft that would induce juice into the
weaker teams. However, 9 is going to do a lot of help as well. 2 lines and a goalie is way too much to protect.

Dispersal Draft won't make much difference...

by "King" David (no login)

The Dispersal Draft won't make much difference, I feel.

Just taking the TOP 9 RATED players on every team (the # allowed to be protected and NOT accounting for leaving GOOD players exposed that are near or already announced retirement, like a Messier, for instance), and you will see that the difference for the most part of the next BEST rated player on each team is really quite minimal! Sure, a couple of GREAT teams may lose a good player, but they will be getting back an average to good player in return anyway! The resulting balance of numbers will only be a Ratings point or two difference on average!

I'd rather see the draft go TWO rounds, adding more suspense, choice, option, and equalization. There's a lot more suspense involved when TWO players can be lost from your team, as you can't simply DRAFT YOUR OWN PLAYER, and know you're safe for the rest of the draft, if you choose. With TWO rounds, you'd still have a player that could be taken until it comes around to your pick AGAIN, and THEN if you've STILL decided you want to keep the team you've worked so hard to build, AND no one has taken a player from your team yet, then you can. I think it just adds a LOT MORE DRAMA AND SUSPENSE, which = FUN! And in the end, it's going to be much like the famous "HAT TRADES"; ForMOST TEAMS, you're most likely going to get someone VERY CLOSE to the range of player that you give up.

Otherwise, if only 1 Round is performed, I'd rather see it as Artur has suggested - protect 6 players: 3 forwards, 2 d-men & a goalie. NOW we'll see some weaker teams benefitting! NOW we'll see some nervous teams wondering "WHO'S IT GONNA BE THAT I LOSE ?!?!?!" THIS would be fun !!!

Take a look at the rosters; protecting MORE than nine pretty much leaves the whole process pointless.

Rubbish

by Sexy (no login)

It's easy for you to say that we should have 2 rounds. You don't have 9 great players to protect so you only win. If we went two rounds then the league would even out a helluva lot quicker but then there would be no incentive to trade for several great players. Why work to be elite if you are just going to be penalized?? If we went two rounds, I would find another league to play in, as I'm sure the Tabor's and Carmen's of the world would too.

Wow! What A Whaa Whaa Attitude!!!

by "King" David (no login)

"I'm taking my ball and going home! Boo-hoo!"

Oh my Buddha, man. Grow UP! It's called "discussion of a topic, open for different points of view", and certainly expected to be approached with a little better attitude than that.

Life SUCKS, Jeff. Didn't you know that? The secret is, don't let it bother you! AND THAT'S WISDOM for a REAL LIFE - it shouldn't even be NEEDED when playing a game!

Do you think everyone was having orgasms over the loss of Steaks & Slumps? Did you see a lot of GM's running away shouting, "It's the end of the world, so I'm not playing anymore?" I didn't.

PS: I'd loose some PRETTY DAMN FINE PLAYERS if I could only protect 6 men, by the way! As it is, I'm right concerned about only getting to protect 9!!!

Do you think I've worked ANY LESS HARD than YOU, to get The Lizards franchise (the SORRIEST PACK OF SHIT IN THE NSHL'S HISTORY before I came along!!! - and that's been statistically proven!) to where it is today! Oh, SORRY if I've only had a season and a half to work on it, as opposed to your 6-7 seasons...

Well, I'm JUST as proud of my team as you can be of yours, as I'm sure the Chase's McCann's of the world are too, and I'd JUST AS NOT want to have my players go to another team via the Waiver Draft as you would, or "the Tabor's and Carmen's of the world", thank you very much.

However, I LIKE the idea, as parity brings with it competition, which brings with it MORE FUN FOR EVERYONE. Thus, for the good of the league, I'm will to go along!

So I'm trying to make my team better by trading for better players. My salary totals go up, but the talent still isn't enough for playoff success. I lose my good waiver draft placement, etc.

What's wrong with this picture?

No easy solutions

by Sexy (no login)

Maybe we should look at reallignment? Put the Eagles into the Shultz or somebody like this. It has been a little bit rediculous that I have my division won already and it's been like that for several seasons with the exception of last season. I almost think that I should be put in the same div as the Muffs and move the Louds into my division. The Spirit's division definitely could use some tinkering with. Take 2 teams from the Shultz and put them into the Spirit's division and take two from them and put them in the Shultz. Does that work???

Streaks/Slumps Evaluation

by The Sexy One (no login)

I would just like to make a quick comment about the streak/slumps being removed so far. I know that I am sure to get support and criticism for my view but here it goes.

I think that we now have an accurate depiction of what the teams in our league are really like. The Infantry are finally playing like they should have been years ago because Tabor's hands are not tied because of bad luck with streaks. With the dispersal draft being implemented, the lower end teams should start to see immediate results as well. If you think that streaks and slumps level the playing field then I must ask you, "Why should you enjoy the benefits of success without having built a good team?"

One more piece of advice for new gm's with weakert teams. If I were in charge of a weaker team, I would take a very highly rated player in the dispersal draft(obvious) and trade him for 2 or 3 mid 70's players with good skills. This would do you more good than just having one very highly rated player. My team got good because I stockpiled above average players and then began shipping them off in pairs for one excellent player. Just my two cents, I hope it will help somebody.

Opening the floodgates of criticism...

by SunDog (no login)

With or without streaks and slumps a GM still has to manage their team. With the feature, there's just one more thing to consider.

Obviously (if after +/- 25 games it's obvious), teams with greater depth generally did not have as much to worry about as teams with less depth. While the ravages of slumps may have adversely affected teams like the Infantry in past seasons, there have been GMs who would not have considered a player's current streak/slump a factor in trade negotiations. (You know who you are.)

As for the SunDogs in NSHL7, there have been 7 very poor games played with probably more to come. Games that should have resulted in ties if not wins, based on franchise history and dare I say, probability. (51 tie games in 6 seasons.)However, my team has also lost to our traditional powerful foes.

I suggested more than a season ago to try out at least one season without streaks/slumps and now we have them. It certainly has made managing a team less time consuming. No injuries? No changes to the farm squad? Ok, check it out again after the next game. Then again, having good (great?) players slump sucks.

There is a certain consistency without streaks/slumps. Now I can work more with various line combinations, balancing offensive and defensive traits. Thinking maybe even about handedness. On a "weaker team" having a star in a slump could drop him from the first three lines if not the lineup. Mediocre players playing with a streak might improve during the re-rate but seem to be more likely to flop flop a few ratings, but keep the same total.

So what's a GM of a weaker team to do? Mr. Tetz offers some advice. Take a star player from a strong team in the waiver draft and then trade him back for two or three lesser players. Then trade those two or three players for another star player. Uh, wait a minute. Trade away the star player for 2 or 3 lesser because it's better to have 3 good players than one great player, but the Traders got good by trading 2 or 3 lesser players for one great player. Hmm. Maybe I missed something there.

In any case, you can be sure that any 3rd line Trader will probably be a 1st line player on the weakest teams. And any 2 or 3 players received in a trade would seem to be able to play on the 2nd line, leading to a more balanced lineup. Is this what you mean Jeff? Do what Anaheim does with Kariya and Sellane?

Clarify

by SExy (no login)

Larry Lavitt,

Perhaps I was unclear. I stockpiled more above average players than I needed and then began packaging them for stars. I didn't trade a great player for 2 or 3 average players and then dish those same 2 or 3 players back for a star. I built up many draft picks and that gave me many above average players whom I dealt for stars.
See the Fedorov, Kariya and Messier deals that I made with the Foomanchu, Rockets and Eagles respectively. Look at my roster in NSHL1 and now look at it. It takes work to mould your team into what I have now.

Something I also considered pointing out

by Artur (no login)

As a third of the season is gone, I would like to point out that this season has been the most successfull by far in terms of many categories:

- GM participation in press-releases, league mantainance, and my personal favorite - arguing :-)

- competition - Semenko Division was never so tight; Infantry emerged as another league leader;
Lizzards had a huge swing from up to down; Stompers and Eagles swang from down to up;

So, IMHO, the absence of streaks seem to be making this league a better place. Finally, waver draft should make the weak teams more competitive the next season. Personally, I like where this league is heading at this time.

AL ball vs. NL ball

by Denman (no login)

Before the season started, I had never been involved in an HLS2 league before. I have enjoyed it enough to this point to have joined 2 other leagues. I have now played with the streaks and slumps, and think that I understand the pros and cons of the feature.
I believe that the feature adds a touch more realism to the game. The game isn't played in a bubble. Sometimes players are "seeing the puck better", or "just don't seem to have any spark", it's just part of being human. The history books are full of stories of lesser teams riding a hot streak to finish above their proper station, and favoured teams struggling unsuccessfully to meet their lofty expectations. This is the essense of the game! This is the reason they don't just look at the rosters and vote for who wins.
To close, I don't think that there is a right or a wrong way to run the league. I believe that it boils down to whether you are an American League-style manager or a National League-style manager. Many prefer to just write in their lineup at the beginning of the season and adjust for trades or injuries. Others enjoy the strategy and constant tinkering. For me personally, I love the streaks and slumps because it allows me to have more fun, and that is my bottom line for playing the game in the first place. But that doesn't mean that I won't enjoy participating in this league without the feature.

Streaks Slumps

by Sexy (no login)

I would not be so dead set against streaks
and slumps if we could protect more players
from being rerated. If the protections spots
depend on the number of farmers, I would not
be so against them.

One more point that I must make is that streaks and slumps are completely abitrary. I could have a guy get 10 points in 3 games and then go -2. If there was some rhyme or reason or logic to the streaks and slumps, they would be a little more welcomed by some people I think.

Rhyme and Reason

I can live with a reasonable number of protection spots although I prefer 25.

More importantly, I agree with Jeff on his second point. While they probably shouldn't be predictable they should at least be explanable. But chalk another one up to the HLS2 simulator.

The TRUTH About Streaks & Slumps!

by "King" David (no login)

Ya know, these GREAT teams go on about how it takes time to build a winner, blah, blah... there are a few VERY IMPORTANT things that seem to be being left out of their arguments:

1) HOW DID THEY GET high 80's and 90's rated players in the 1st place?

Assuming that everyone started out generally okay to good, then I'm confident that STREAKS were used and managed well to allow these now GREAT players to score WAY beyond their actual rating values, thus promoting GREAT Re-rates (across the board), thus making these players GREAT! Obviously, it takes a while, and some good management to use these steaks to the maximum effect, and some GM's have had better success at it than others.

But REST ASSURED, these astronomical Re-rates that have made these SUPERSTARS would NOT have been likely to occure had Streaks not been part of the game to begin with!!!! THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT POINT! Simply, without Streaks, players seem to generally play within their means (relative to linemates, injuries, etc), and would not have been scoring at the 17.6% rate while only a 6 Rated Sh (shot), allowing for such a favourable "across the board" Re-rate to occure for them!

BUT NOW, that the GREAT TEAMS (usually GM's that have been around the longest and have had the TIME to figure out what works best! - The Traders/Muffs/Spirit/Eagles/Infantry/etc.) have a good core of GREAT players in their system, that GREW from favourable Re-rates, most assuredly, they argue for Streaks to be taken away, thereby not allowing New GM's, and weaker teams, to even have a CHANCE at getting the favourable Re-rates that THE GREAT TEAMS have already enjoyed and benefitted from for 6 Seasons, building their GREAT rosters accordingly!

If you have a team anywhere close to .500 or lower, then: VOTE FOR STREAKS & SLUMPS to be brought BACK! If you want to be challenged as a Manager of an above .500 team, then: VOTE FOR STREAKS & SLUMPS to be brought BACK! If you just want to HAVE MORE FUN, then: VOTE FOR STREAKS & SLUMPS to be brought BACK!

2) Assuming that the BEST a player can be is a 9 in any rating catagory, then Streaks HELPS weaker teams WAY MORE than stronger teams! So of COURSE the strong teams are going to try and vote it out! How?

If you have so many players that are ALREADY rated 9's in Prime Catagories (those Catagories that Salary is based on), then having them be a +2 doesn't matter! But when most of your team sits with 7's in the Prime Catagories, then a +2 increases their value by 22%!!! The generally weaker team has a FAR BETTER chance of seeing average players increase to great players, as they simply have FAR MORE average players that could be HIT by a +2 streak.

Conversely, the stronger teams have FAR MORE GREAT players that could be HIT with a -2 slump! Even if EVERY team gets the same # of players that Streak or Slump, then the weaker teams come out on top!

When slumps hit a team, those with so many 9's in Prime Catagories will be hurt FAR MORE with a -2 slump, as their GREAT players become average. A weaker team is going to lose (odds are) to the stronger team ANYWAY. So, a slump isn't going to make the win any easier - they will STILL lose.

But with it being RANDOM, we could see weaker teams UPSETTING a stronger team much more often.

3) And finally, of course, the sheer ENJOYMENT of juggling rosters and lines and players because of +2's and -2's, and even TRADING for players (your starting goalie, the ONLY good goalie you have, has been stuck at -2 all season - you TRADE for a +2 Goalie to get back on track!) etc., this all promotes participation, excitement, fun suspense & mystery! HOW LONG is Fluery going to be able to keep this up?!?! (Milk him!!!) When will Brind'Amour EVER get back to seeing where the net is?!?!?! (The BUM!) Give David Cooper the BIG BREAK he deserves ('cause he's sitting +2, making him your 4th best D-man!) THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT!

Everyday we click into www.nshl.com, we MIGHT find something VERY SCARY, or conversly VERY EXCITING happening with our team, due to Streaks & Slumps. It's SUPER!

But, we back to the main point. Great teams have built their teams USING streaks to maximize Re-rates to their advantage. Bad GM's, whose poor trading practices and high turnover have left many "weak sisters" in the NSHL. NOW, even if a GREAT GM takes over a floundering team, they don't have the advantages that were there for the LONG TERM GM's who made the best of their Streaks to get such great rosters through positive Re-rates.

Good luck everyone:

If you have a team anywhere close to .500 or lower, then: VOTE FOR STREAKS & SLUMPS to be brought BACK! If you want to be challenged as a Manager of an above .500 team, then: VOTE FOR STREAKS & SLUMPS to be brought BACK! If you just want to HAVE MORE FUN, then: VOTE FOR STREAKS & SLUMPS to be brought BACK!

It should be noted, when I said:

"BUT NOW, that the GREAT TEAMS (usually GM's that have been around the longest and have had the TIME to figure out what works best! - The Traders/Muffs/Spirit/Eagles/Infantry/etc.)"

I was NOT meaning to imply specifically that ANY of the mentioned teams voted specifically to have Steaks & Slumps removed - they may or may not have. I HAVE heard and talked to SEVERAL of the GM's with strong teams who have made this impression to me, and others have obviously made their feelings known through mailings in the past, and this page. Generally, however, I have not heard many (?any?) of the longer standing GM's, with relatively strong teams, arguing to KEEP the feature, hence my comment. There seems to be MANY MORE stronger teams FOR the demise of Streaks & Slumps, than those that are arguing to keep them!

Easton....Blah Blah Blah

by Sexy (no login)

Go back into the files eastin and see how many
shitty players that I had rerate astronomically.
I've never had a 6 shot shoot for over 17% when playing on a regular shift. I may have guys that only play a few games or that don't get regular ice time shoot over 17% with like 30 shots per season. I've never dressed shitty players on regular lines though. Even if a shitty player has a good year, he can only go up by one point in a given category come rerate time.

Once again, I go back to my point that if we can have as many protection spots as we have farmers, the I say let streaks and slumps come back, I could care less. But I don't want 4 protect spots with streaks and slumps.

Another point, When Keith Tkachuk was leading the league in scoring for two years he had great ratings already. Same for Messier and so on and so forth. Guys that have gone up great for me over the years; Phillips and Salei and Brown and that may be it. McCauley will make the jump to superstar status hopefully.

I really like what the Thieves and Thistles have done. They came from shit and now have great teams. Same for the Loudmouths. The Loudmouths have worked hard and gotten better. I know you'll come back with some rhetorical comments EAstin but I really think that you are always looking for shortcuts to your "perennial Neely Cup Championship." Although you'll be sure to cry foul and innocence when faced with accusations that may or may not have some truth to them.

I look forward to your response Archie.

A slanted perspective

by Psycho Sedsey (no login)

From what I have experienced in my season and a half, I must say that I enjoy the absence of streaks/slumps more than I did having them on last season. Slumps were a season-long frustration for me, and I am glad they are gone.

I can agree with Easton on the point of an unfair advantage when it comes to losing the chance to get across the board rerates over a full season, but them's the breaks and I will deal with them as best I can.

Last year my teamed SUCKED. In one short season, I am hovering around .500 with some wins against top teams like the Traders and Muffs. I made quite a few trades, and I like to think that it is these that have helped me most. I was lucky with farm rerates, but that's OK by me!!

I enjoy the NSHL this season. Last season, while it was enjoyable to have more active trade talks in progress, it certainly was borne of some frustration. If there is to be a vote, then I will cast it again...no streaks/slumps!

Building my team is fun...takes time...

Reynolds Wrap Award

by (no login)

Just to clarify the criteria for suggesting nominees for this award.

When suggesting a nominee it is necessary to state in which game or on which date the incident occurred. With this information, our team of researchers verifies the information using the PIMs given for the game in question and the injury time that resulted from the same game.

And remember, both the injured and the injurer receive the same number of points, one per game missed due to injury.

unbiassed and well corresponding to what happened in the last 10 games.

Funny Stuff

by SexyTetzy (no login)

I must say that it has gotten hard to follow all of the latest postings. A couple of things posted by Carman and Lavitt had me rolling on the ground almost. I do think that's it's pathetic to post something under a fake name and respond to it using your real name though. A lot of wasted space on this penalty box but Carman, Lavitt, Roytburg and TAbor provide the necessary comedic relief that is needed to sift through all of it.

On another note, I hear that a potential airline strike in Canada may make it impossible for any teams from out of North America to make it to any of their other games. This would mean that any outside teams would fold or be forced to join another league. Let's all pray that the issue is resolved very soon. Is Tetz a Unich?

by What's the Point? (no login)

Cause again I'm worried for the kid, see. He refers to Phyllis as "She is always exagerating and making something out of nothing".

Well, that's fine, until you realize that her comments were "He has a small penis..."

If THAT'S an "exaggeration" and "making something out of nothing", then....

Well, let's put it this way: I think it's time we consider taking the "Sexy" out of "Sexy Tetzy"!

I'm a little worried about this program...

by It doesn't seem to matter (no login)

Well, see, it say in the bottom right hand corner of this page to "Hide Header", but in the preceding comments by Phyllis Diller, it was the reference to that guy giving oral sex was CLEARLY VISIBLE! What's with that?

"vouch"

by Name no use (no login)

Do you know, "vouch" is just a one letter typo from "touch" - now the question is, did he MEAN "Sexy Tetzy can vouch for me.....I am very Serious, and interested.......", or was it a typo?

You bet

by (no login)

Yes, I do have a waiting list. I get messages quite frequently from people interested in the league. The fact that the web site is so well done certainly attracts a lot of this interest, and for that I'd like to offer my thanks to everyone that chips in!

I'll put the updated league files up once a week, probably on Tursdays. I hope this is often enough.

Ace.
