Support Forum For "Writer's Friend V2" Software
Two questions-- Saving Swipe File and Adding ButtonsbyI've been using Writer's Friend for six years. Not quite true. I started using it six years ago. Four computers back. It didn't get moved to my last couple computers until just the other day. Am wondering two things: 1. Can I somehow import my old swipe files? If so, how? 2. Can I add new tabs on top, such as one for Email Subject Lines? Thanks, kwc |

V-2byHello, I have a copy of WF, v.1.1.2 that I would like to upgrade. Is there an upgrade method available? What exactly are the new features added to version two? Would I need to uninstall the old version first before installing the new Writers Friend? Many thanks. |
Differences between version 1.1.2 and V2byTim, Thanks for liking Writer's Friend. There are quite a few differences between version 1.1.2 and Version 2. First. V2 is a COMPLETE re-write. The entire program was re-written from scratch. Not one single line of original code was used. Second. V2 was written in a different programing language. Third. This resulted in V2 being much smaller in executable size. 483k (678k install package vs the 2.3 meg of version 1.1.2). Fourth. Because of the smaller executable size the program runs faster. And does not require any runtime modules. This means you can even run it from a floppy disk! Fifth. The program is self-contained. That is. All functions are within the interface you see. There are no pop up windows for finding or adding. Everything is done within the "text areas" you see and with the use of the buttons. For instance. To "Find" a word, you type it into the small long text area and click the Find button. If the match is not what you were after, click the find button again. And keep doing so until you find what you are after. Adding text is done the same way. Make sure you are on the "library" you want to add text to. Type your text into the long thin text area and click "Add." Your text will be added. The copy button is used when you find the text you are after. Just click "Copy" and the text will be copied to your clipboard in readiness for you to paste it into your document. This is a vast improvement on the previous version. As with the previous version you had to manually highlight all the text and copy it that way. Sixth. The help file is in PDF as well. So you can print it out. V2 is fully compatible with Version 1.1.2. That is, the interface will work fully with version 1.1.2 data files. So if you have added headlines or quotes, or whatever, you will still be able to access them via the V2 interface. To leave your existing data files in place and to use the V2 interface, I suggest installing V2 in a temp folder then copying the .exe file across to your existing version 1.1.2 folder. Let the new V2 executable replace the old executable and all should work perfectly. If you have not added anything to the libraries using version 1.1.2, you can freely uninstall it before installing V2. That's because the data files and their format were not changed. Only the executable - the program - was changed. Changing from version 1.1.2 to V2 by way of upgrade? At this point in time there is no official upgrade policy. That is, no special upgrade discount to encourage upgrading. At this stage, upgrading is done by investing in a copy of V2 as if you have never used Writer's Friend before. (Now that you ask, I will consider it and get in touch with you via email.) Hope this helps, Michael Ross |
How do I . . .by TroyHow do I create a second copy of Writer's Friend on my computer? Or can I? I don't want to lose what's on the original, but I want to be able to use a copy for another specific project (my notes only). Thanks. |
Like this...byRestart the installation file. When given the choice of WHERE it will be installed and WHAT it will be called, change the default options. That should work. OR Open Windows Explorer, go to Progam Files in the left pane, click the + sign. Scoll down until you see the Writer's Friend folder. Click the folder once then go to the Windows Explorer toolbar and select the "copy icon." Then paste the folder into another folder of your choosing. OR Creat a new folder. Then using Windows Explorer, copy all the files in the Writer's Friend folder and paste them into your new folder. Note: These last two methods will not automatically create icons or desktop icons. Hope this helps. Michael Ross. |
That did it! Thanks, Michael (dno)by Troy |
