Nobody has mentioned the recent Canadian purchase announcement of the Stryker MGS? How about these questions to propagate some discussion -

Another tank trainer like the Cougar?

Is it a Tank Destroyer, or simply a Tank Annoyer? The low pressure 105mm doesn't have the punch of the L7A3 currently in the Leo C2's.

Cost effective tank replacement in low intensity conflicts? Can 60 Stryker MGS's effectively replace almost double that amount of Leo's?

Logistical benefits of having the same automotive components as the APC's it's supporting?

How will this affect the Cdn regimental system? Will Canada adopt more of a 'Combat Team' metality, and the regimental system as we know it become a thing of the past? Will the 'Armoured' Corps become the crewmen for all the LAV III vehicles?

What is the future for the recently upgraded Cdn Leopards, or 'heavy' armour in Canada in general? Didn't we just finish converting them all to C2 standard?

Sure I'm playing the Devil's advocate with some of these questions, but it's just food for thought to promote some discussion.

Cheers,
JP
