I got word today that there is now a Leopard C1 monument with the LdSH(RC) in Edmonton. If anyone gets a chance to take some photos please post them on the site.
I travel to Edmonton periodically to visit friends. Hence I may be able to photograph the monument in the near future. If you know generally where the thing is located that would be helpful ... and perhaps we beg and plead for Jim to take some pictures!!
Dan, I think the Leopard is in the Strathcona Regimental lines. I would not be suprised if it ends up right outside the Headquarters Building or near the tank hangars. From what I was told I do not think it has been put out on display yet. It will be interesting to see if it will be left in it's 3 colour NATO cam or covered over in the gloss green gate guard paint(bad idea). I hope it's one of the tanks I commanded.
Had the opportunity to run up to the Base today. Leo C1 won't be 'monumental' until spring at the earliest. It is out back, but since I no longer know any Strats up here, I won't be seeing it for a while. They still have to pour a concrete pad and all that for it. Just talked to a couple guys up front. It wasn't a wasted trip, the Medical/Ambulance Battalion has a nicely reconditioned and freshly painted M113 sitting out front now, got a few photos of that! Jason - do you know anyone up here who would be able to see the C1? - maybe youse guys should go on a road trip!
