Combat Camera Photos

August 16 2007, 11:47 AM

Here you go...

The old black Maple Leaf looks great on the turret. Great to see a couple of guys I know in the photos.

There is no A/C attached to the turret rear as was suspected in the first image.

Leo II

August 16 2007, 1:41 PM

Thanks Jason,

As a former black hat nothing could please me more! By the way, I was trained by the Strats; great people!

These babies arrived 17 or 18 years late. I remember reading the old Armoured Corps mangazine (can't even remember its name now); it was announced at that time we were going to replace the Leo I by the Leo IIs. Well, as they say the rest is history. The up side is that we now get the latest and greatest.

Could it be that the rentals come without the A/C and purchased one will?

Tank Procurement

August 16 2007, 4:20 PM

Yup...they finally got some new toys and get to go right into combat with them...very rarely does this ever happen.

There may be an A/C system mounted internally or maybe not....but there also may be an internal system with cooling vests for the crew.

Combat Camera photos - links

For you downloading pleasure, the Leopard 2A6M-CAN photos posted on Combat Camera would be as follows:

The driver in the 7th image looks like a kid at Christmas!

I am very happy to note that the pictures give us a pretty good idea as to what the slat armour mount points look like. This type of detail is often very difficult to see with the full cages mounted.

Image 12 indicates the extent of the new NATO-green paint on the hull sides and rear (as noted by Jason in an earlier thread). It looks as though the additional paint was applied over new welds required for the slat armour mounts.

I have a sneaking suspicion that at least one Combat Camera photographer is interested in armour from a modeller's perspective. In May of 2006, there were a number of RG-31 photos posted on Combat Camera that could best be described as a 'mini walk-around'. These Leopard photos also seem to have been shotn with a modeller's eye for detail.

Cheers - Dan

Nope it's not

August 19 2007, 12:46 PM

It's a Dutch DAF Tropco transporter...used by the Dutch in AFG....they probably used it for their PZH 2000s and other lighter armour.

Just good NATO cooperation....not Canadian kit.

Not Canadian but..

August 19 2007, 7:47 PM

The AHSVS project is buying the Mercedes Actross armoured tractor for deployed ops. Part of the buy is to procure the Dutch Tank Transporter trailers. I haven't seen any pics yet of the trailers in question but this may very well be the ones we are buying for the AHSVS tractors.

I can't help it...

August 21 2007, 9:12 AM

Its my EME heart at work. I find all kinds of support equipment sexier than the actual tanks. So, talking of support equipment. Anybody seen pictures of the new Leo 2 ARVs? Now that is some sexy piece of kit don't you think

ARVs are OK

August 21 2007, 9:21 AM

I haven't seen any images of the Leopard 2 ARV yet...I would think it will be heading to AFG very shortly to get in theatre to assist in prepping the 2A6Ms.

At least the Elite Leopard 2 Buffel ARV shold not be far off from what it will look like...putting slat armour on the ARV would likely limit access to all the equipment on the hull....but we will have to wait and see.

Sexy beasts.

August 21 2007, 10:58 AM

Stephane,

There was one of these sexy beast belongs to the Dutch sitting right next to the EME compound, literally by our fence. I talked the Dutch OC into allowing me climb all over it. Sensational feeling! ))

ARV Arrival

August 28 2007, 3:30 PM

That would make complete sense....very accurate information.

The Taurus ARV was one of the first vehicles to be sent to AFG with the C2 MEXAS so the Leopard 2 ARV would also be one of the first to arrive also.

The Leopard 2 ARV will for sure be needed there as prep continues on the tanks.
