Gunny G's USMC OohRah Forum! THIS FORUM: ESTABLISHMENT & PURPOSE What is Oohrah? Where did it originate? Why are Marines hooked on it? How is this related to similar phenomena in other services?... Old-time Marines with whom I have discussed this subject are generally of the opinion that this aberration is silly, embarrassing, insulting even! Conversly, others, who perhaps regard themselves as old-time Marines, have also, for whatever reason, themselves become hooked. Regardless of the controversies involved, and the varying opinions of both older and newer Marines, one thing is clear to me: Nobody has yet provided any proof or reference of any kind as to any form of historical origin for oohrah. Not that there are not sufficient sea stories related to oohrah--scuttlebutt abounds--but not once have I seen anyone who could come up w/ a good solid reference to support their "stories." This Forum is provided for the discussion of oohra--both pro and con, with the ultimate purpose to establish a reference for its origin, if any. When and if someone can come up w/a good reference I will post same to this Forum and Sites; likewise lack of any forthcoming evidence will tend to discredit its having any historical foundation in Marine Corps history! The first entries, below, by me, are records of previous discussions on this subject from around the web (there are many others out there) and will provide a basis of how people feel toward this topic, and will serve to indicate why a central Forum is needed, I think, in order to explore somewhat more fully the details of this subject.
