I've also been to the top of the Mountain (Watch Collecting wise), and have been fortunate enough to own all of the watches that I once only dreamed about. I had a 5970 on the day my Doublesplit arrived when it hit me ....................... it wasn't about the destination, but the journey. I had been getting less and less satisfaction out of each ensuing Watch that I bought, as I got closer to what I thought was my ultimate purchase..................
I took a break from everything to have my Hip replaced. While rehabbing I 'Googled' one day for Perpetual Calendar Moonphases and the word 'Campanola' came up. I had never heard the term but launched the site and was 'blown away' at what I saw. I downloaded one image and used it as my screensaver for 6 weeks as I tried to convince myself that although I thought they were beautiful, they were still Quartz and still Citizens, and couldn't possibly be for me.
I finally relented and ordered one, and this was the start of a 4 year adventure that continues to this day. I allowed myself to break my own rules and follow my heart instead of my head. The thrill I had when starting in this hobby in 1977 came roaring back, and I started looking a Watches and Time in an entirely different way.
It wasn't about any one particular way, but the potential inherent in all the possible ways to celebrate time.
I still love my higher end Mechanicals, and particulary my Vintage Chronograph collection, but things are no longer mutually exclusive. Like watching the
'Sixers play the Nicks' on friday night, and going to the Academy of Music on Sunday, when it's good, it's good !
My horizons broadened, taste levels still intact, ................ and maybe, just maybe, slightly enlightened !!! (definitely having more fun !)
