Hornets come back with four unanswered in the third period to claim the 5-4 win over Walkerton and the series four game to one.
Hornets seemed diintenrested in the first period and fell behind 3-1. Walkerton played an aggressive forecheck and caused a lot of traffic in front of Alsop. Alliston got more involved in the second period and forced several highlight reel saves from Flagler and left a couple of pucks on the goal line. Walkerton managed a late goal to make it 4-1 and many thought the game was done at that point.
However, as many of us in the GBMO know all too well, Alliston found another gear in the third period and cut the lead to a goal with 9 minutes remaining. From there, it was only a matter of time - you could see the Hawks sag knowing what was coming. Sure enough Alliston tied it and Walkerton was hoping to get it to overtime where "anyhting can happen" but it wasn't to be. Walkerton couldn't even get the goalie out of the net as the Hornets relentless forecheck kept them on their heels.
Alliston is a better team. Walkerton's top six can play with anyone but there were some "butts nailed to the bench" that wore down the top six so there was nothing in the tank to respond to the Hornets in the third. Looked as though Walkerton played the third period "not to lose" and abandoned their aggressive style of the first half of the game.
Refereeing wasn't a factor here.
Alliston now awaits the winner of the Campbellford/Clarrington series (I think?) as semi-final matchups get OHA approval for distances, etc.
