OFA / Penn hip

about recessive.>>

Terry,

I have no idea what the results would be compared to/against but I see no problem with those who
wish to do the OFA or Penn hip tests. If this is their bag, I say "Go for it", but that doesn't guarantee
that the offspring of the OFA'ed or other health tested animals won't have problems.

It may make the owner/breeder and/or the buyers feel better but the only guarantees are from the
breeder/seller to the buyer by contract.

I have breed a number of litters from non-OFA'ed animals. The parents showed no problems. The
grandparents have shown no problems, the other offspring of the parents have shown no problems,
but this isn't a guarantee the next litter of pups won't. BUT----

I do guarantee to replace a defective pup with a pup from the next year and I don't demand the
return of the defective pup just because it is defective. I would require a statement from a vet that
the pup is defective and that it has been spayed/neutered before a new pup would be given.

It may take a couple of years for a defect to show up. In that 2 yeas, a very strong bond has
developed between a wd and it's human pack members. It would be cruel to ask that the pup be
returned to me because it has some problem. It ain't gonna happen.

If the owner wants to return the pup for problems, fine. I will refund and that will be the end of the
association. It would seem to me at that point, their main concern in having the animal was breeding
for $'s and the don't need anymore of my animals.
