Well, if you changed the name of the animal to wolfdog, you would see many of the tales we have
already heard.
I must admit, I am out of room at the inn. We took back a 50 f1 of our own this year who's mistress had died and since we had him as an odd male, we had to get him a companion (we took in a, we hope and think, spayed rescue from Ohio who is a lovely but very shy girl) and had to build another pen but that pen took the last remaining area we had.
We have had a couple of animals here on a temporary basis while we found them new homes and we still have the facilities to do that but at this point, that is about all we have room to do. Does this make me a bad breeder, a BACKYARD breeder?
Maybe it does. We do have our buyers sign a contract that states we are to be advised and be allowed to take back the animals we sell if they are to be given up for any reason. We also guarantee the health of our animals and will replace any defective animals with the owner being allowed to keep the previous animal upon the receipt of a vet statement that they have been spayed/neutered. (We have never had to replace a pup, btw.)
We have had a number of our females spayed and are really seriously considering having the rest
spayed as it has become so difficult to place our animals in homes we really feel good about but we
haven't fully decided to have Akiah and Kachina spayed yet but it surely is difficult here during the breeding season when we keep them separated from their mates.
What is the answer? I don't know.
If the folks who have the truly verifiable, proven, hi %, stable stock stops breeding, where will the animals to infuse any wolf back into the wolfdog come from?
If the folks who have the verifiable and proven lower to mid content animals stop breeding, where will the folks who really would make great homes find pups?
Seems to me like they would have only the unverifiable, unproven animals who are already so
prevalent out there who are represented as hi % when in fact, many have little or no wolf in them but are still called wolfdogs.
Perhaps we should just give up and give in and allow the "wolfdog" become just another NORTHERN
breed of DOG.
