while i agree with much of your post, like hubertus says "it's as though the creative process is no longer contained within an individual skull, if indeed it ever was. Everything, today, is to some extent the reflection of everything else."
maybe part of gibson's motivation behind footage was the guilty pleasure of seeing what spawned in it's wake. i'd love to interpret the footage myself, or least clip #135. such an act would be no different from doing a remix or cover song. i think this has the potential to be as self-fulfilling prophecy.
