Looking through old bookmarks brought me here again.

I searched Flickr for "the footage" and found this set:

Some of these have the grainy ethereal mystery I think of as belonging to the footage. They are distant in time, and so also evoke the requisite remoteness.

I was thinking about the fact that we were looking for the footage out there, when there is no footage after all in the book. Only laboriously produced and reworked disparate images. They sprang from footage, of course, from the security cam. But they are like snapshots of a waking dream, or poems composed by someone no longer capable of any other type of expression.

I'll be pondering and see if my life allows time to flex my oh-so-slighly burgeoning Photoshop skills in order to contribute something that feels like kindred output.

Of course, my second reading of Pattern Recognition is now over a year ago, so my sense of the remoteness and disconnection of the footage is itself remote...
