I've been feasting on Rainier's for 3 days now. They're a little tart. We're waiting for them to sweeten up a bit. But I'm enjoying them anyway. I snack on a few 5 of 6 times a day. hmmmmm. I know you're out so I shouldn't gloat but I think you gloated when I didn't have them. ha ha
I'm doing the same now w/nectarines ... my favorite way to eat them is over the kitchen sink and let the juice run
I was surprised to see cherries Tuesday morning at market but [are you sitting down] ... I didn't buy any as the last batch really didn't taste all that great.

Ah lolol. Eating fruit over the sink is the best way to eat it. That's how I scarf down watermelon. Speaking of, it's time for a watermelon. Mike hates the waste of the rind and it creates such a mess but it's oh so good. I get the one with the black seeds because I swear it tastes better than the seedless which really aren't seedless. They have those small white seeds. The difference in flavor is really unbelieveable however, in my opinion. So I get the big ole watermelon and spit the seeds out all over the place. It's heaven. I do cut it up in pieces from whole and I deseed it and then I enjoy the hell out of it. I think I'll go have go have me a cherry or two. Sorry yours are gone. I really am.
sick as a child on watermelon and to this day, the first smell of it flips my stomach! My dad had a grocery store and while we were picking up my sister from summer camp, daddy put a melon in the freezer so that when we came home (before days of a/c in cars) we'd have this nice cold watermelon to dig into ... well knowing me (I LOVED them too) I probably really pigged out and got so sick.
Why oh why didn't I get sick like that on chocolate

You like honeydew. I personally don't care for that one. Go figure. But I love cantaloupe. Sorry. We wouldn't be able to eat fruit together. This is embarrassing but I've never had a nectarine. A peach of course but a nectarine no. I know they're similiar. And juicy and good. I must try one this year. Okay, now I'm hungry for cherries. See you in a few.
No, I said I don't like any melons ... wish I liked that pale green (celery color - is that a honeydew) as it looks so cool, but don't like any of them.
You've never had a nectarine? Oh they are exceptionally good this year ... In fact I'm going to go eat one now!!!

...and want to put in my two-cents. I thought I bought a honeydew last week.
When I cut it open it was a cantelope!!and not avery good one. No flavor.
I also bought four apricots, at four dollars per lb. When I opened the last one, it had tiny mold spots. Somebody is messing with our fruit, and as much as I like all mellons and peachy stuff, I haven't been able to find any that fit the child-hood memories. Every body had trees full of fruit, and it was delish.
INTENSELY. I also dislike them all, especially the smell, but watermelon is my cantaloupe...the smell of it literally makes me gag, almost to the point where I can't breathe. I have to ask the server to hold the melon, too, when I see it on other people's plates in a restaurant. I can't even get in the line at a checkout stand where there's a chewing gum display because I can smell it if there's watermelon gum. I'm not sure why I detest the smell of melon so much. My mother tells me I never got sick on it when I was too young to remember. I don't think that could happen because I can't imagine ever being able to put it in my mouth. She's told me that I did make myself sick gorging on corn and wouldn't touch it afterwards. I'm glad I don't remember because I eventually got over it. I love corn.
I've always had a theory about the melon thing. When I was very young we spent summers in Mendota. My grandfather was a foreman for an agricultural company and he would bring home gunny sacks full of cantaloupes and there was ALWAYS watermelon. Mendota is in the San Joaquin valley and it gets ungodly hot in the summer. In the evening everyone would sit around eating cantaloupes and watermelon and I couldn't even stand for anyone to talk to me with their melon breath in the 100+ degree air. I think it scarred me for life.
