Lyndhurst Day Care on New York Avenue is a very good school. My kids both went there up until starting kindergarten and were way ahead of the other kids starting school. I have heard good things about Bright Horizons as well, but it depends on your budget because they are very expensive (probably double the price of LDC). As a mother I'm sure you will go with your gut instinct, so my suggestion would be to visit a few schools and see for yourself.

Is pre school necessary?

The wife should be home taking care of the kids at this age rather than sending them off and having someone else babysit for her. Besides maybe the husband could come home to a good hot meal after work knowing the wife is at home all day with some responsibility.

Unfortunately most husbands now days cannot make enough money to support the wife and children that is the reason wives have to go to wok (it is not their fault is the economic situation within the country). Where have you been for the past 20 years? It is very hard to maintain a household with two incomes and impossible with only one. Lyndhurst is a blue collar town; there are not rich people here.

Too many Excuses

The problem as I see it is that today's husbands don't want to work two jobs like many of the older guys did so that our brides could remain home to attend to the kiddies. Personally, I can't blame them because today's wifes are usually big spenders ,always looking to keep up with the "JONESES." Besides they even find it difficult boiling a pot of water. That's why after three divorces I gave up remarrying and just date professional working women.

The problem as I see it is, you're an idiot!!!! Yes, I believe if you have kids you should be able to stay home with them until they are school age. But for most people im today's society, this just isn't possible. As far as husbands not wanting to work more than one job, you're an even bigger ass!!!! My husband wants me to be able to stay home and raise my children, so he busts his ass working 3 jobs and even with that we're on the verge of losing our home. And, no moron, it's not cause, I, his wife, am a big spender (I don't even go shopping because we can't afford it) nor do we try to keep up with the "Jones'".It's because in today's economy, it is impossible to survive on one income. Not to mention that he has 3 jobs, I also work from home babysitting other people's children so that I can still be with my own and we still can't make ends meet. And, I can't boil a pot of water, ass. My family gets home cooked meals every night. It's no wonder all 3 of your wifes divorced you. You should find yourself lucky that they divorced you, cause if I was your wife I probably would have killed you. So if you don't know what you're talking about, you should keep your fat mouth shut. All this woman wanted to do was find a suitable daycare for her child, if you didn't have a response about a good daycare, you shouldn't have responded at all just to spout off your obnoxious idiotic way of thinking.

When you send your little ones to these pre-schools, they learn the words god bless you and achoo and can I have a tissue. You do the math, stay at home moms don't rush there kids to school sick just because they have to go to work. Tell dad to go get a second job if you need the money, so you can keep your sick kid home and not get every other kid sick.

If they are still in business, Pumpkin Patch is an excellent pre-school. It is great if you want that real, warm, motherly, personal touch and it has really small classes which is great for one on one attention. There are lots of hugs and kisses. The staff is wonderful and they are reasonably priced. Sacred Heart is also highly regarded. I knew two mothers who had their children there and they LOVED it.

I am not a big fan of Bright Horizons. It is VERY corporate and VERY cold and you are paying way too much for your child to get lost in a class of 25 kids. Every single one of my family members who have placed their child there within two months pulled them out. It is also very over priced. They are a franchise and believe me you are paying for their franchise fees.

As far as whether it is a benefit for a child to go to pre-school....it is! Whether you are a stay at home mom or a working mother either way your child will benefit from the social interaction with their piers. I don't care if you work or stay at home, people do what they need to do! We would all be stay at home mother's if we could all afford it! But I find that some children wind up being behind or immature without the benefit of going to a pre-k. They should go at least part time. It helps for when they get to kindergarten.

JMHO =}I am not a pre-k teacher. LOL

I agree that the Pumpkin Patch is a great place for children. They run it like being in a home environment but the kids still learn.

Stop knocking working Moms, some people do need to work and still want the best for their kids.

This was a great question and again this board has turned it into trashing working mothers, shame on everyone.

Check out The Children's Studio in East Rutherford.

I am not a fan of this school because it is in ER, but because it is (imho) the best school in the area.

My daughter, who is currently 23 years old, went there from ages 8months to 4 years. They were AMAZING with her, as with all the kids there. They do not just babysit, they teach. She learned so much there (scholastically and socially) that she had a huge head start on Kindergarten.

Fast Forward.... My ex hubby remarried a few years back and put his son there from ages 18months until Kindergarten... same thing. Amazing school, with an amazing owner and amazing staff.

I agree, The Children's Studio is a good school, but what's wrong with it being in East Rutherford? East Rutherford is no worse of a town than Lyndhurst.

Hahaha!!!!

There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with being in East Rutherford.

I added that because I expected someone to come in and go off on how this is a Lyndhurst forum and it should be kept here.

Seems I cannot win no matter what!

A pre-school has nothing to do with whether you are working or not. There are all kinds of programs to meet all needs. It is important today that young children start learning socializing and that the world does not revolve around them 24/7. They do get a head start on children that don't attend pre-school. I know as I work in the school system. You can tell right away what child has been to pre-school or not. There's alot a parent can do at home with a child but separating for a few hours at a real school benefits both child and parent. You'd be surprised how self-assured they become, how interested in learning they become. Just generally,it really helps with their attitude towards learning. My pick from experience is Sacred Heart's Small Blessings.

I agree with you on that point, Anon.

I was a 'stay at home' mom, but I put my daughter in The Children's Studio three afternoons a week. She was an only child, so it was good for her to learn to interact with other kids and be exposed to different learning environments.

Ideally, it is best for one parent to be home with the kids. Since that is not always possible, the very best care should be found within ones budget. But, all children will benefit from an early start in artistic and intelligent stimulation.

I couldn't agree more. Maybe we should send some of the so-called adults that posted in this thread to day care. It seems they could use some intelligent stimulation themselves.
