Community service mandatory?April 29 2008 at 6:29 PM No score for this post | randomdebator (Login randomdebator) |
| Now i don't not have a problem with volunteering you're time. but when you are forced to be somewhere for 20 hours per year, i don't the same results apply. the mandatory community service in lyndhurst high school does not do anything but take any credit away from students who actively volunteer there time without having their arm tied behind their back. If i was do be dragged by the faculty to do this "community service" i would want a little more compensation for it then just the privilege to graduate. Kids are being taken advantage of. |

There was a thread about this before.
And I agree, mandatory community service for School Graduation or Religious Sacraments is ridiculous. I have already gone into my reasons before on this forum, so I won't again.

I agree, community service should not be a mandatory requirement to graduate high school. Volunteering comes from the heart (within) and forcing the kids to do something they really don't want to do, I think shows in the end result. People who break the law are given mandatory community service to make up for their errors. You only get out if it what you put into it, and being forced to do something you don't want to do, well why do it at all. Some people love to volunteer and I think that is wonderful. Many kids don't feel that way. My niece was told to contact the Environmental center in the Meadowlands to do some hours. When my sister called to schedule her, the person she spoke to said she didn't know why the school was telling the kids to call. Last year, my kid signed up for the Little Red School house. She did 30 min. and was told there was nothing really for her and her friend to do. Again, I think its great but some people just don't have it in them to do. |
