Does anyone know how to get the parking enforcement folks to actually enforce? There is only one side of the street parking on my street, which is bad enough, but then we have neighbors who block spots (everyday, rain or shine) with orange cones....and those who's cars don't move for entire weeks....or more when there is a holiday and no street cleaning. I think I may have to move again.....any advise?

If they own a home on the street, they should be able to park their cars, no?

I know that on my street we have cars parked here for days and days and they don't even live here. We move our car on street cleaning day, only to find that someone from ValleyBrook Ave has parked there car in front of my house and leave it until next street cleaning day, a week later, forcing me to have to park a block away or more. Or people from other towns park their cars on my street and leave it all day because it is walking distance to the buses/train.

I pay a lot of money in property taxes and get very little for it. The least I should be able to do is park in front of my own house.

Now, if this person has a load of cars or doesn't live on the street... then that is a different story and totally sucks. I don't think it is a good idea for me to speak further as to what I think is appropriate action on that for fear of being banned

The town should have resident's only rule enforced and charge all others for parking. And it is ridiculous that there are so many streets that have a strict 'no parking' or 'no overnight parking' rule.

I would probably deserve to be banned for posting what I think should happen to ppl who leave their cars in front of someone else's house and leave them there for ages. Along with ppl who blast their music from their cars not caring that others might not want their windows to vibrate with the bass of their crap music... my wishes for these ppl are inappropriate for posting in an open public forum. :D

Actually, I would be very happy if the town passed ordinances on both of these issues. Imagine the money they would make if they passed laws against noise pollution and ticketed ppl for blasting their thumping noise. The town would be able to afford to fix the potholes in the streets, paint yellow lines on corners and actually do something about the sewer systems.

Passing a parking law might be more difficult, tho. I mean, how could they dictate how many cars a person is allowed to own and where they could park them?

While my feelings on the subject are genuine, my posting is a bit tongue in cheek.

I'm sure if you would bring your situations to the attention of the meter maids, they may be able to direct you in the right direction for some parking relief. I believe there may be an ordinance where vehicles do have to be moved within a certain time frame, or they can get a ticket or be towed. If you are that unhappy with your current situation that may be an option for you. Good Luck

I'm with you catgirl....it's the same on my block...and I don't even have a driveway....I have everybody who works and lives on Stuyvesant Ave park in front of my house...and there is never any parking for us....it's crazy...parking enforcement doesn't give tickets unless it's sweeper day....they don't bother to see if people have permits in their windows....and never mind the 48 hour parking rule or whatever it is...cause if the car is in front of your house for a few days and you call the cops, they mark the tires and check to see if it's there again in 48 hours...and chances are it won't be....and what are we supposed to do call the cops the second someone parks in front of our homes....you can't do that either....and then you have the other issue of moving your cars for the sweeper....they don't even have alternate side parking here and you have to park a block or more away....and then rush to get your cars back to make sure you get to park in front of your own house....It sad when you're a prisoner in your home because you're affaid of losing your parking spot.
