How many of you have neighbors that refuse to recycle? I have a few that I know of that put all their recycables in the trash (dark bags used). I also know of a few town employees that never recycle. I see neighbors put their garbage out sometimes at 2:00 in the afternoon for the following day pick. Isn't there a law or town ruling on this? Could you imagine if everyone did this? I have called the townhall a couple of times and a DPW super. sometime shows up at the neighbors house, talks to them and then a few weeks later BAM it starts over again. I think the town officials should toughen up the rules.

IMO, people who don't recycle are just plain lazy.

I'll bet the guy's down on his luck and trying to make a buck or two. At least he's not breaking into cars. I wouldn't call the police unless he's making a complete wreck in front of your house.

are you the the type of neighbor that reports people and then peeks behind your curtains to see how the authorities deal with the situation? police state? i agree that what they are doing is wrong, but question who made you the "recycle police". please consider that you might becoming someone who yells "get off my lawn!!" to the kids. not the best of neighbor. there are more important things to worry about. obama 08!!

if people had your attitude, we can count on our town to become a slum. garbage and cans/bottles is an issue. the town loses money. broken garbage bags sitting for more hours then necessary invite animals and windy days create messy neighborhoods. we recycle for a reason. lets hope the future generations understand the reasons we do this. i too do not appreciate cleaning up after sloppy neighbors.

Not to worry, the State of NJ in it's typical stupidity is mulling a Deposit on all Bottles and Cans throughout the state. 10 cents a bottle for under 24oz and 20 cents for anything above that. This would apply to Juice, water, soda, sport drinks, wine and beer.

Retailers would be forced to accept up to 24 bottles per customer per transaction. Resellers are of course against this as they will have to devote much time, effort and floor space to collect and store these empty bottles. Stores would be required to purchase bottle cleaning equipment, and would absorb the cost of storage and transportation.

The State would keep 75% of all unclaimed deposit revenue, with 25% going proportionately to retailers and redemption centers. Essentially another way to tax the citizens of NJ.

What's so wrong about it? Why should you care if he takes your recyclables? As long as he plans to actually recycle them and not litter them around town, what difference does it make?

I agree with you that everyone should recycle.

But your complaining about your neighbors putting their garbage out in the afternoon the day before garbage pickup I think is petty.

Did you ever consider that maybe they work the 3pm - 11pm shift? Would you want them making all kinds of noises in the middle of the night when they get home from work just putting their garbage out then? I am sure then you would be the one calling the police regarding noise!!

Are you one of those people that put your garbage out the day before? Gee, New York has a huge rat population, have you ever seen the news where the garbage bags are piled up by the street waiting for pick up? How long do you think it would take if a majority of our citizens did this before the little creatures visit Lyndhurst. Oh, let's not forget the diseases they carry. The slogan use to be "Let's keep Lyndhurst beautiful". Over loaded garbage cans without lids on them sitting on the curb for 18 hours is far from pretty. Imagine your neighbor putting their newspapers out the day before pick up on a windy day. Are you going to run around the neighborhood picking up the papers? Don't think I'm being petty. I'm no slob. I respect my neighbors and wouldn't trash my neighborhood by being inconsiderate but, the ones who don't cover their trash cans and put their garbage and recycling out 18 hours before are. If your neighbor works the 3 to 11 shift, I'm sure the significant other doesn't. There are town ordinances regarding recycling and garbage cans and like any other ordinance they should be followed. People shouldn't be making their own rules or think they are above the law.
Yes, I will make a complaint if my neighbor puts their garbage or recycling out before the time allowed the day before and it causes a mess. I am tired of cleaning up and no longer going to, let the town handle it.

First of all, I am not one of those people who put their garbage out early the day before.

The point that I am trying to make is that sometimes there are other circumstances that make it necessary for someone to put their gabage out earlier than normal. Oh and not everyone has a "significant other" to do the work for them.

You sound like the kind of neighbor that has nothing better to do than spend time watching what all your neighbors are doing, and complaining about it. I also think that you would be the first one to call if they put their garbage out late at night and make to much noise.

Part of living in a small town should mean being kind to your neighbors and not try to cause trouble about all the things that bother you.

Everyone in this town should pull together to keep that small town feeling so we can make Lyndhurst a better place to live in.

I wouldn't exactly consider Lyndhurst a small town. The population is close to 20,000.

Small town, big town. I prefer a neat appearance in my neighborhood. Garbage and recycling should be handled properly. If my neighborhood becomes unsightly, I'd call the town too. Yes there are other important things to think about but if everyone did as they pleased we'd have a problem.
