Am I in Lyndhurst ? or Union City ?

I just came back to the town I was born and raised in after spending the last 7 years in the Midwest and I have to be honest and say that the town has really gone down hill.

I went to the fair with my wife and daughter the other night and was shocked at how many people in this town don't speak English or just aren't what you'd expect to see. At first I thought it was maybe just a bunch some outsiders coming to the fair so I drove around town the last two days and visited some of the old stomping grounds..... only to find more of the same.

What the hell happened here ? In 7 years a total overhaul ?

What a shame... and to think, I've been telling my wife about what a great little town Lyndhurst is.

I don't appreciate your "subtle" racist statement.

Glad you left town.

What ethnicity do you find acceptable? Only white Europeans (probably Italian)??

Sure hope you pass your prejudices on to your children. LOL

If you don't appreciate my comments, then you're probably part of the Hudson County invasion. Anybody from my day and age would applaud the statement. European Americans are the forefathers of our country. These men and women built this great land with their hard work. The new "American immigrant" beleives everything is free and is proud to be living rent free and getting food stamps.

Let me guess, you live in a 2 room apartment with your wife, your brother and his wife and six kids. You have a seventh grade education and you're on disability?

I agree with you, to the point, that less and less people are speaking english. I believe we are in America and EVERYONE should be expected to speak english.

I don't care is you are italian, polish, spanish, greek, chinesse, etc., if you want to live in this country you need to speak english. I am not trying to make a racist remark either, just stating my opinion about lanuage.

Well then we need to write all our representatives and tell them we want English declared the official language of The United States of America!

It's the international language, shouldn't it be our official language?

English as an official language loses votes and candidates these days have no backbone, so do not expect this any time soon.

Just to clarify a couple things for ya Chico. I'm an Irish American and I grew up in Lyndhurst when it was an all Italian neighborhood. Italians are hard working respectable people that take care of their homes and pride in their property. Your comments insinuate that all Italians are prejudiced. If thats the case, why come to where they live? I already know the answer, but if you want to think about it I think you'll realize that even you don't want to be around your own kind.

I am also Irish-American. I grew up in Detroit. Went to integrated schools from grade school on. I appreciate diversity. Too bad you saw "or just aren't what you'd expect to see." Sorry for ya.

PS. All you "English as the official language" posters. Ever occur to you that they might be bi-lingual, and choose to speak in another language? You can't stop that no matter how uncomfortable it might make you.

Detroit ??? I guess your used to living in squaller, so I'm sure Lyndhurst is paradise to you.

The fact that you think it's ok that nobody has the common courtesy to speak English tells me you're not Irish.... We know better.

Illegal immigration is destroying the entire country, if you don't see it, then you're blind and stupid.
Let me know what your house is worth in 5 years after the schools are filled with illegals.

Dirtytown,

You are a piece of work.

OK. Let's do a hypothetical.

An Irish family moves to the U.S. They go to a town party and talk in Gaelic to each other. Is that offensive to you? Are they not following common etiquette?

You can try to explain your twisted logic to others. I'm not going to waste any more time on an embarrassment to my heritage.

You are lucky you moved. See how bad this town has gotten, you can't even be treated nicely. Like you I am heading to the midwest. Things sure have changed alot in the 13 years I am here, and not for the better. Look around you it looks like a city and it looks dirty. If anyone in this town can't see that than they are just trying to ignore the fact that things are changing. People love Lyndhurst and to admit that it has gone downhill will change their feelings about this town. Pretending is better. I am not a racist, and I do not care what language people speak, however I do feel that we are in America and people that come here need to learn the language, we make it too easy. When my ancestors came from Italy they were on their own to learn the language and get by. Wake up Lyndhurst things have changed, you wanna live here and love it than more power to you, but don't jump all over someone who has an opinion. Remember we are in America and there is a thing called Freedom of speech. Run back to the midwest and don't look back, because that is exactly what I will be doing in the next two months.

Andy Rooney said on '60 Minutes' a few weeks back:

I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except numbers. The only things I can think of that are truly discriminatory are things like the United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine, Black Entertainment Television, and Miss Black America. Try to have things like the Un ited Caucasian College Fund, Cloud Magazine, White Entertainment Television, or Miss White America; and see what happens...Jesse Jackson will be knocking down your door.

Guns do not make you a killer. I think killing makes you a killer. You can kill someone with a baseball bat or a car, but no one is trying to ban you from driving to the ball game.

I have the right 'NOT' to be tolerant of others because they are different, weird, or tick me off.

When 70% of the people who get arrested are black, in cities where 70% of the population is black, that is not racial profiling; it is the Law of Probability.

I believe that if you are selling me a milkshake, a pack of cigarettes, a newspaper or a hotel room, you must do it in English! As a matter of fact, if you want to be an American citizen, you should have to speak English!

My father and grandfather didn't die in vain so you can leave the countries you were born in to come over and disrespect ours.

I think the police should have every right to shoot you if you threaten them after they tell you to stop.. If you can't understand the word 'freeze' or 'stop' in English, see the above lines.

I don't think just because you were not born in this country, you are qualified for any special loan programs, government sponsored bank loans or tax breaks, etc., so you can open a hotel, coffee shop, trinket store, or any other business.

We did not go to the aid of certain foreign countries and risk our lives in wars to defend their freedoms, so that decades later they could come over here and tell us our constitution is a living document; and open to their interpretations.

I don't hate the rich; I don't pity the poor. I know pro wrestling is fake, but so are movies and television. That doesn't stop you from watching them.

I think Bill Gates has every right to keep every penny he made and continue to make more.. If it ticks you off, go and invent the next operating system that's better, and put your name on the building.

It doesn't take a whole village to raise a child right, but it does take a parent to stand up to the kid and smack their little behinds when necessary, and say 'NO!'

I think tattoos and piercing are fine if you want them, but please don't pretend they are a political statement.. And, please, stay home until that new lip ring heals. I don't want to look at your ugly infected mouth as you serve me French fries!

I am sick of 'Political Correctness.' I know a lot of black people, and not a single one of them was born in Africa ; so how can they be 'African-Americans'? Besides, Africa is a continent. I don't go around saying I am a European-American because my great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather was from Europe. I am proud to be from America and nowhere else.

And if you don't like my point of view, tough ...

I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG, OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA , AND TO THE REPUBLIC, FOR WHICH IT STANDS, ONE NATION UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE, WITHLIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL!

It is said that 86% of Americans believe in God. Therefore I have a very hard time understanding why there is such a problem in having 'In God We Trust' on our money and having 'God' in the Pledge of Allegiance. Why don't we just tell the 14% to BE QUIET!!!

Fake or not it's the truth.

This country needs to get back to what made it a great place to be and that probably means being less tolerant of the people trying to take advantage. I work at Newark Airport and I see droves of pregnant women coming into our country from places like India and they are here to do one thing, to have that child on US Soil.

People come to this country to abuse the system and it's our own fault for letting it happen.

Widl - You like what you see across the country ??? Do you have a job ? Pay taxes ?
Do you like paying the bills of those who don't ?

I'm an LHS grad that remembers 20 years ago.........It sure didn't look like this.
