Response to A very articulate post but curiously one-sided

I should have written that even if I was encouraged to sing Lieder rather than Opera in my younger days, it was to ensure that I was using this instrument and all its colours.

I had horrible diction when I was young. I think, its pretty good now, but, back then, it was a disaster. I still had a French accent in everything I sang. No matter how "cute" that was, my professor insisted that I could not sing opera until that was resolved.

That being said, I sang lots of Schuman rather than Schubert, Brahms was also my friend for years.

I sang a big of Mozart Lieder but, it was soon discovered that Mozart Opera was never going to work for me and to just not bother.
