I agree and think this is part of the weeding out process

Singers really need to be self aware. Those who are not, tend not to do well.

You have to have an objective take on how you look, sound and come across in auditions. If you understand these things about the way you ARE, not the way you WANT to be, you will do well.

You have to be objective about your vocal flaws so you can work to erase them.

Being objective is SO important in the development of a singer that it can't be overstated. And this, of course, extends to the repertoire that you sing.

So I can't agree with you more. Singers need to not artificially darken or over sing to try to work in a less populated Fach. It just doesn't work and you actually set yourself back by trying to do this. Be good at what you ARE.
