Response to "I'm a big/heavier voiced (blank). . ." (a long rant)

I'm quite tall and broad for my voice category, and when I was in my early 20s my first voice teacher, who works as a voice teacher for an A house was convinced I was a dramatic.

She told me that dramatic voices take a long time to develop and engendered my trust in her in various ways, ensuring I wouldn't leave her for easier singing pastures. I was frustrated with my slow development frequently with her..but she would refer back to the long development of dramatic voices.

I did eventually leave her for a different teacher who has helped me to develop my true lyric voice suited for Rossini, Mozart, Bellini, Donizetti etc. My technique is now secure and I'm getting cast locally, but I'm also in my mid-thirties. If I was as mature then as I am now I'm sure I would have left her earlier and been eligible for the YAPS, and had a much easier time at developing my career.
