Response to Likewise!

The real problem is that a lot singers I know who have made a career never got their start from open auditions. One of my mentors, a big-voiced mezzo who has made a lot of money singing in the last 20 years, told me that she only got 2 or so jobs from the 500 or so auditions she had done.

She told me that it is important to network, and from there is where you get your jobs. Go to a coach who works with a certain company, email your friends who have connections to here there. Get a killer package together and send it to agents...this means dropping several thousand of your own money. Just don't give up, find more doors and start banging on them.

I have not knocked on some of my own doors as I am not ready just yet, but I have some ins in some level B and C companies. It really helps to be friendly and nice and professional when you do no-pay and even some pay to sings. That's where I have met so many helpful and lovely people who are starting to become close friends.

It really is who you know....and it helps to have talent.
