I am one of those N very much like what you discribe. It took thirty years before I was diagnosed with N and when that happens you go into this survival mode, I call it. You become adapted to what makes you function normally. I've always kept my emotions very close, because of the cataplexy. I have been asked by some why I am so cold in some circumstances, when everyone else is crying or laughing. It's just our defense system.
