10 hours and counting...chopping celery and onions, prepping the bird, doing yet another headcount (will there be enough potatoes, turkey, chairs?!), stressing out and praying for a two hour nap...8 hours and counting...I'll just lie on the sofa for a little while, roommate storms in, storms out, Mom calls, sister calls, niece calls- "Can you, will you, do you, have you"- sigh...7 and a half hours and counting...I'll just lie here on my bed for two hours...5 hours and counting...four hours and counting...three hours and counting...Oh, no! I have to get that bird in the oven, I didn't mean to sleep that long!, peeling potatoes, chopping vegetables, feel the tickle and lean against the wall- nope, slide down the wall and twitch for a few minutes- peel more potatoes to replace the ones you dropped on the floor...two hours and counting...washing dishes, vaccuuming living room- again, another head count (will there be enough?!), cranberries in fridge, stressing out and wishing for a quick nap, (Is it over yet?!), set the table...and then they arrive... put in the rolls (10 minutes, don't forget!)...scrambling for seats (someone come carve this turkey- and yes, the chair with arms is mine)...prayers are said and everyone passes dishes, eats, laughs, "Watch her, she's having an episode- don't let her fall out of that chair, why isn't she in the chair with arms?!", kids are ready to get up, "Let's wait til-", "No, Mom, I'm stuffed, really," covering plates and dishes, washing dishes, "Bye, everybody, thanks," hugs and kisses, microwaving the plate and sitting at the table, waking up an hour later to microwave it again... don't you just LOVE the holidays?!
