I'm on ssdi, too, and have Part B. I think you have to pay the difference for each year since eligibility for part B, but now a days you can't afford to be out of health insurance. You can go to an emergency room for x-rays due to injury and Part A will pay. Do you have an urgent care near you? Something you may consider is a Catholic hospital, such as the one I worked at (St Joseph's Hospital) talk to a social worker and they will just write off the expense. Most private Catholic hospitals will not discriminate due to income and they have funds to help those who have no means to pay it back.
