cataplexy definition

by Nikki (no login)

I am always having trouble with the definitions of cataplexy, every time I see it. I don't feel that it has anything to do with muscles. It is always described as lack of muscle control, but to me it doesn't really feel like it has anything to do with muscles. That description sounds as if our muscles are where the cataplexy is taking place, which is not the case to me.

If I were to describe it, I would say that everyone has something like a breaker box in their body, just like within a home. The breakers get thrown for either a part, parts, or all of the body. That is what it feels like to me, it seems like it has nothing to do with my muscles. I am trying to get a signal to them, but I can't because the breaker is thrown. It is not as if there is something wrong with the muscles.

It just seems like there would be a better way to define cataplexy so others would understand the feeling and the reason. Anyone that does not have it looks at the definition and understands it incorrectly, because they are thinking it takes place within the muscles, not the brain or spine (whatever).
