You'd be surprised how many families of narcoleptics and cataplexics believe there's nothing wrong with us that a good swift kick in the pants wouldn't cure. And they don't hesitate to express it on a daily basis.
For your daughter's sake and yours, get her to a doctor who specializes in sleep disorders. Just because they are a psychiatrist or neurologist or whatever doesn't mean they are sleep specialists. Some specialize in it, but not that many. I don't want your daughter to wind up being misdiagnosed for years and years like most of us have. I couldn't tell you how many neurologists, psychologists, internists, etc. I saw during 40 years of being misdiagnosed with conversion disorder, somatization disorder, depression, etc., but they diagnosed me as a liar most of the time! Then I found a pulmonologist who specializes in sleep medicine. He diagnosed me CORRECTLY within minutes, then ordered the necessary tests to confirm it. So before another doctor orders tests for her, ask if they are sleep disorder specialists. If they're not, you are probably wasting your time and money.
