What a lot of people don't get is that narcolepsy has to do with the sleep stages or also whether or not you have cataplexy.
If your sleep stages do not show the REM coming on too soon (faster than 45-90 minutes after falling asleep) it means you have some other sleep disorder. If you have cataplexy then you have narcolepsy, regardless. That is all there is to it.
That does not mean everyone who does not show up as having narcolepsy should be freaking out or getting angry. It just means they have another or similar sleep disorder. A sleep disorder is a problem, no matter which one you have. It is still a burden and health issue.
I also think it would be nearly impossible for anyone with narcolepsy to be able to NOT fall asleep, or be stressed and delay their dream stage unconsciously for the sake of messing up their test. That is sort of like saying you didn't get enough sleep or food or whatever so you messed up your lie detector test. That is just not happening.
