Here's where I ran into issues...

Both my sleep studies have been an overnight followed by an MSLT. But neither of them were thorough...
Both have been at a pediatric facility, and from what I've been told they don't deal with N/C very much.
At the first one, when I had a cataplectic attack during the MSLT, the tech FREAKED and sent me home before the study was done. Literally skipped the last two naps and said I needed to go home. Mind you at the time my attacks were about 30 min when stressed, full body.
Then...the second one, because it was at a pediatric facility run through the Children's hospital, they made my mom sleep in the same room. She and I run on VERY different sleep schedules, so I had a hard time falling asleep. Also, surprisingly enough, I had only been off my meds for 3 days. And that night I slept very well, better than compared to my sleep log.
I wasn't very surprised when they said my study wasn't indicative of narcolepsy. I was much more shocked when they told me I couldn't possibly have narcolepsy because during my "cataplectic" attacks (yes they had that in quotes) I wasn't sleeping.
There is where I ran into issues. So I can completely see why it could take many studies to prove Narcolepsy.
