Ketois is the burning of fat and there is nothing wrong with that, especially if you don't exercise. Ketones are made when fat breaks down. Your body is always producing ketones. These ketones fuel the bodies cells, including the brain, the heart actually prefers them to any other fuel. We need some carbs to completely burn for energy, all the ketones produced. If you don't have sufficient carbs to burn the ketones the excess circulate in the blood and are gotten rid of by way of our stools, urine and breath. Unless you are a type I diabetic ketones are not dangerous. Heavy ketosis does produce sleeplessness. Great if your narcoleptic, right? Well, except at night when we want to sleep.
I think there is alot of misconceptions about ketosis, if I remember Stanford did a huge study, years ago about the low carb diet and gave it a good review.
The bottom line is that lots of carbs produce lots of insulin, even if you're not diabetic and you become insulin resistant. Your body needs to produce more insulin to get the sugars out of your blood and into your cells. All those carbs, sugar, are causing your pancreas to produce more and more insulin and this causes, obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, causes the kidneys to retain water and salt, it stimulates production of cholesterol by the liver. Just remember that insulin is the master hormone of human metabolism.
Sorry I just remember this from nutrition class in nursing school, it just brought back memories. Of course this is much more complex but for those who don't know what ketosis is, it is a start.
Just remember every thing in moderation, including a well balanced diet. Not alot of carbs though!!!!
