We don't know the whole sorted story about MJ, but I would say that this Las Vegas doctor, who probably did procedures that gave him access to propaphol was just his drug of choice. Xyrem tightly controled by one pharmacy would have been less accessible. It also may have had some bad interactions with the other drugs MJ was taking.
