Check Engine Light problem

There seems to be some new 'Vs that are having the check engine light go on for no apparent reason. It turns out that there may have been a software glitch in early '02. You need to scroll down (right now to page 5 of the archived board) to get the details. Here is one starter link about it http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/message?forumid=171460&messageid=1016572424.

While I'm posting, it helps newbies to find relevant posts if they aren't buried on the board, so let's try to consolidate comments and questions into one post instead of starting many new threads.

I'm just wondering whether my CRV which was built in April will have this problem. So far no signs of trouble...

Ask your dealer what the VIN range is. If I remember correctly you're Canadian (like me) and the number is somewhere in the 10,000's. However, my VIN is in the 2,000's and I haven't had the problem yet.
My EX-L was built on Nov 26, 2001.

What part of the VIN would contain the 10000? The last 5 digits?

How did you find out the exact build date of your V?

My dealer had a list of all the V's coming during the month of December. It showed trim level, colour, build date, expected delivery date and possibly some other stuff.

The "Check Engine Light" turns on and off on some CRVs for no apparent reason. Supposedly, it was a software problem with the CRV's Electronic Control Unit. A fix is now reported to be available from Honda. I'm not sure whether Honda has upgraded this software on the more recently built CRVs.
