It is true that the sensor measuring 'g' should be much lighter than the structure or DUT being vibrated.

e.g. A PCB should be mounted on with a very light accelerometer , as small as a small capacitor and be stuck with glue on the Board.

At times, we need to keep in mind modes i.e. nodes and anti- nodes which can give difference in measurement. That's what Modal Analysis is about.
