Type of pulse for shock testing

I'm interning for the summer at a vibrations lab and I'm pretty new to the vibration and shock world. I'm trying to develop a shock test, but I'm not sure whether to use a half sine or haversine pulse. Can somebody explain why I would use one over the other or tell me of any good resources I could use about shock testing?
