It's been a weird 2 days now. I get my new Acer netbook and cheerfully start configuring it. The very next day PMWF goes offline. I had to go home sick from work Thursday afternoon after starting to have dizzy spells when standing and moving. Still home from work with the same issues, plus a few added symptoms.
I have taken advantage of the home-time and have been laying in bed with my new Acer Aspire and finishing the configuration I've started. Mostly been an adventure in googling for answers on how to do stuff. Case in point, I spent most of this day off/on trying to get my Kyocera printer set up. I knew I had to use CUPS, but the information of how to properly configure with a Kyocera printer that is using it's internal network print server is really hard to dig up. I'm a leading Kyocera IT technician (I help out a lot on forums in my industry) and I still did not know how to do this right, and I have access to all the manufacturer's online resources that the public cannot see. Well, it's working correctly now, and I'll know how to do it in a matter of minutes for the next time.
I also got GIMP, Picasa 3, and FireFox 3 installed correctly, working, and displayed on the desktop now. A lot of commands typed in a terminal window and editing of the xml doc for the desktop. I am failing at all attempts to get VLC media player though. Seems my linux build may not be supported by vlc anymore as of a couple of weeks ago. The online directions I have found no longer apply.
I guess with all this work, I did not need my regular PMWF fix as much as normal. Good to find something to distract you sometimes. Time to lay down for a while now.
