One thought - and I'll preface this by saying I know absolutely nothing about the situation personally. But I wonder if it's not a smart move by the coach given the opportunities for Georgia kids to attend school on the hope scholarship. It would allow him to sign a number of Georgia kids to play soccer but use very little scholarship money on them. Then he can have greater numbers to play with which is an advantage.
If you can only afford to bring on 20 kids split over 12 scholarships and I can bring on 30, I have a much larger margin for error. You miss on 4 or 5 kids and your roster is dramatically impacted while I can afford to miss on several more before the talent base and depth is impacted.
