If ECNL did not exist, none of the current teams in the National League would be in it. Before ECNL, there were only 8 teams in National League and entry was very tough. ECNL took almost all of the teams already in National League: CASL, Sting, Oklahoma from Region III alone. USYS then expanded to 16 teams to appear to have a viable national option to ECNL but that just watered it down further since now they were getting 3rd and 4th teams from certain states.

Want proof? Look at the current U18 teams across the country (they are the best barometer of ECNL as they have been in the longest. Every US Youth National Champion and Finalist since they were U14 is now ECNL team.

U14-Mustang beat CASL
U15-Sting beat Scorpions
U16-Sting beat HFC Hurricane
