The Georgia soccer team will get the 2012 season underway when it begins preseason camp on Aug. 1 at the Turner Soccer Complex.

The Bulldogs will train Wednesday for the first time as a team, going through an early-morning fitness test and culminating with an evening practice. Camp will continue throughout the next two weeks leading up to the Red & Black intrasquad scrimmage set for Fri., Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. at the UGA Soccer Stadium on South Milledge Avenue. The annual exhibition contest is open to the public and admission is free.

Georgia will open its regular season the following week, taking on UNC Greensboro on Fri., Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. at home.

The 2012 Bulldogs return nine starters and 16 letterwinners from last season, including All-SEC midfielder Alexa Newfield and goalkeeper Ashley Baker, while welcoming in eight freshmen. In 2011 Georgia saw Newfield break the Georgia single-season record for points (40) and shots (102), while her 16 goals ranked second-most in UGA history. Also noteworthy, third-year head coach Steve Holeman is just 11 wins shy of 200 for his career.

Georgia is aiming for its fifth NCAA Tournament bid in the last six seasons and ninth overall. The Bulldogs are coming off a 13-7-2 season in 2011 and a trip to the NCAA second round.
