can't be - the 2 sides don't get along. Rec side wants to run select side and select thinks people running rec are a waste of time. All about power and $$$ and currently rec side has power in BOD votes and that meant less $$ to SG. Now rec is bragging on forum - gotta luv it.

Less money for Steve Gummer (SG)???? I would like to know how you determined this. Check back in June after you talk to Steve and then see if you were right.

But congrats to the teams, I guess it goes to show a club can have strong players on both sides of the club. Not everyone believes in paying $3-4K per year to play soccer and travel all weekend.

I didn't determine it - it was public knowledge he got a reduction in pay. And what was that used for? a rec DOC. Yet rec uses SG Jr Academy program with select coaches doing the training. Keep it up and it'll be all rec soon because the players will follow the coaches.

Less Money

Ok, break it down since it was public knowledge and not just your opinion.

Jr. Academy Program used by Rec?????? Sorry but the select coaches get paid for these sessions. And most of the Rec coaches don't want the program, but your friend SG and others see positive results from these sessions.
This gives SG and other select coaches the chance to see good young players at the age of 7,8,9 and 10.
and it gives the select coaches more money per season.

Are you the same person screaming about the dedicated rec coaches "keeping" kids away from the select side?

2 crazies who keep rec players from going academy/select

No score for this post

Glad rec is doing great, but know its from the two guys on the rec side with an agenda that are trying to keep players that should go into the academy and select programs...hopefully the cobb fc parents are voting these two yahoos off as we speak. It's amazing to see what grown men will do at a child's expense.

What if a kid's parents can't afford select?

The way I hear it, one of CFC's BOD members has strong ties to the Hispanic community, and low income households. Many of these parents simply can not afford the costs associated with Academy and Select ball so they play rec. What's wrong with that? I don't see that as being anti select.

he's campaigning on "FREE" soccer for these kids. Check out what they are driven to in practice. Good for him he works in his community but not to the detriment of other kids. Always remember his first priority is his team. Look at his practice schedules ( had access to fields when other teams were told fields were closed) games(he's scheduler)how come CobbFC hosted U12 & U14 boys state rec cup yet other age groups had to travel all over? roster. He is all about power and is within a vote of telling select how to run. We don't need that.

sometimes good players just want to play rec. They may have other sports/interests that keep them from a Select committment.

Cobb is a select rec team

Most clubs with the rec programs allow the coach to select 2 players. These players are usually the coach's and asst coaches kids. Then the clubs Upper Rec Director fills in the rest. Usually when teams are this strong there is something fishy going on with in the club. One quote from a Cobb coach "We have been the same team for years". The Cobb teams I saw only had 1 or 2 subs, which means they did not "draft" weaker players or did not invite the weaker players to play in the tournament.

Who cares?

May 12 2008, 9:01 AM

As a mother of a select player....who cares if they try and make their team great. I really don't care if their rec players never come over to the select side. I don't care if they enter every tourney within a 50 mile radius. I don't care if they practice 15 times a week. I am not afraid of their child scrimmaging my child in a one on one or an eleven v. eleven. Go for it JC and SS. Knock yourself out. Make the rec program as strong as it can be. And leave the select side to operate without you and your input. Sound good. There are enough children in our area that can afford and are happy to afford. Our select program will grow with or without these yahoos. Just leave us alone. Your bright ideas are quiet frankly scary. I hope you are voted off.

Many in the CobbFC community can see the difference. The Recreational, Academy and Select programs are working together with one single goal; improve the soccer experience of our kids.

If you have any suggestion or recommendations for improvement, please contact the DOCs or any of the Board Members. Positive and constructive criticism is always welcome in our club.

Thank you.

you better care that's who. If not it'll be their way or the highway. They see themselves as SG but they don't have the credentials. So if they can win rec cup they think they're great coaches. So you and all your friends better care or you'll be a part of the best rec club in the state.

they are in charge of rec and don't follow rules. The teams are set up to win only. And if they can't win they change rules to their advantage. Check out semi final at state rec. JC determined rules and we got screwed - and we are a CobbFC team. My son won't play there again. He knew he couldn't beat us on the field.

They talk about problems in the past with people not following the rules. They are suppose to be the big Cobb FC saviors. So what do they do....they break rules now, because they feel it has happened in the past. Doesn't two wrongs make a right? They need to move forward. They need to look at what is best for the club now. But they have an ax to grind. Get over it boys. Jump into 2008. Quit trying to tear down a club.

was it U12

if it was a u12 boys team that is the rec director team. 1 or 2 subs. real good team but doesn't fit definition of a rec team.
