Super West

With all the posts about various association mergers what is the real reason that DCSA, West Metro and Carrollton can't get their acts together and form a competitive super club on the west side (at least on the Select level)? Adult politics, money, egos or combination of all three? It sure would be in the best interest of the kids?

It could work, I agree. But it would take a third party mediator to make it happen because none of the clubs want to admit they cannot offer individually what could be offered together. There is one individual at one of the clubs that has run off anyone who does not use his philosophy and achieves success. So as long as he is in the picture, you can forget it.

Look to DC for some of the resistance too. Carollton and DC tried to....

work out an agreement a few years back but the C**** were against it and it stopped. Then they moved their kid to Carollton because it suited them. Way too many egos and the best interest of the kids was kicked out the door once again. It is a shame but it is the truth.

Club Strength

Fact of the matter is that each club has their strengths. None of these has gotten strong enough to warrant the drive to each other as a whole.

But with very rare exception none of these associations has successfully or consistently fielded a top tier select team in either gender. Just seems a shame that the best players on the west side end up in Cobb, Gwinnett or Fayette County year after year.

I'm not sure how this would be in the best interest of the kids

The kids seem just fine. This sounds like a parent's ego posting. Life is not all about being a part of the biggest soccer club.

And this sounds like a Rec parent (or maybe a board member at one of the clubs protecting their "prestige " in the community because we all want to feel important) who doesn't have a clue about fielding good Select teams and how good teams help associations grow and be better organized to help train all the kids including Rec. Why do the best players go out of county to play-do you think it is easy on the kids or the parents who drive ridiculous hours to get better coaching? Believe it or not your Select players are smart enough to know that a .500 or worse season is not a good thing which is why they have to look elsewhere. Why is it always an OP ego when in fact 99% of the time it is the kids decision to transfer. Come on west side wake up to reality you have some very good players who shouldn't have to leave in order to be competitive in Classic I or Athena A-oops excuse me West Metro, Carrollton and DCSA do you have any teams at the top divisions? State Cup anyone?

WOW!!! Three associations with a total of one team each and 2 of the 3 are in age groups when most kids quit so the competition is diluted now what was the original poster thinking anyways!

Good try to discredit some kids. I don't know about the Crew team but the WM team has been competing at the upper levels for years.

BTW, do you really feel good about yourself?

I'm the OP of the "best interest thread." I'm not a rec parent (though I was in the past and could be again), I'm not on any board and I have happy kids playing select ball on the west side. And I'm happy too. My ego is not tied up in pushing my kids to live soccer. If they want more out of soccer than they can get where they currently are, we'll consider our options. But I don't see us going anywhere. I hope your kid does enjoy playing and does not burn out - I mean it. Many do.

And this is why there will never be a merger or quality soccer on the west side. Oh well, one can dream...

And this is why you should work to make something of your own life and not try to live through your kids. This is why - exactly.
