Not sure how they got in over Norcross. Like Norcross, they were a semi-finalist and they won the top State division. In fact, in SIC, they are actually ranked below Norcross. Looks like politics at work.

Not sure how you can judge about the "quality of girls." Sunrise aint anything special. Norcross "quality" beat the tar out AFU "quality." Other than the fact that Sunrise offers a convenient travel partner to Boca for R3PL games, can't fathom how they beat out Norcross for that 12th spot.

May be it's because the Norcross team has some new players

and some came from Athena B an R3PL evaluated the situation came to the conclusion with new additions they won't be able to compete in this league. Beating AFU at SC has nothing to do with it the team changed alot since try outs.

If you think that the R3PL committee looked that closely

No score for this post
July 4 2009, 11:40 AM

you have obviously NO idea how the system works. Evaluate the resume of the roster? Are you kidding me?

Reality is that either 1) The Florida rep just presented a stronger argument for Sunrise than PW did for Norcross or just plain had more friends/chits to call in or 2) PW didn't think highly enough of Norcross to press the case much (which, honestly, I doubt. He has always been a pretty strong advocate for Georgia teams).

You folks never cease to amaze me. How about this -- nice job of playing yourself out of R3PL going into the most important year of these girls' club experience.

I am betting they did not have 50% + returning from last years weak team. Therefore it was politics that got them in. They shouldn't have been invited back in any event based on their performance, so again, it was politics.

How in the world does SC get 3 teams? AFU got screwed on this one!

Looks like each state was allowed 3 teams, regardless of competitiveness

No score for this post
July 3 2009, 5:27 PM

Looks like Georgia got the short end of the stick on this one.

AFU had a record of 6-2-3 last R3PL and was a GA Semifinalist

South Carolina:
- CESA 91 (0-10-1 last R3PL season, SC Champion) - Was beaten by AFU 7-0
- Carolina FC (non in R3PL, SC Finalist)
- Columbia United (3-8-0 last R3PL season, SC Semifinalist) - Was beaten by AFU 3-1

NC:
- Charlotte (6-4-1 last R3PL season, NC Semifinalist) - Was beaten by AFU 1-0

I can see where SC can get CESA and Carolina FC into R3PL ahead of AFU, since they are the state champion and finalist.

But how can Charlotte and Columbia who both had worse records than AFU, were beaten by AFU, and who didn't do any better than AFU in their state cup, be allowed in?

Big injustice for GA and AFU at this age group.

July 3 2009, 6:36 PM

AFU was not a SC finalist, but they had a 6-2-3 record. Nobody's saying that they should get in, ahead of other finalists, even though they clearly have a better league and head-to-head record then the South Carolina champion.

Neither Charlotte or Columbia were finalists. They both had worse records than AFU. They were both beaten by AFU during the season.

So, how can AFU be left out, and both of these other teams allowed to participate?

If R3PL's objective is that they strive to put the most competitive teams in the league, this would seem to contradict that.

Maybe if AFU didn't show such bad sportsmanship

No score for this post
July 4 2009, 11:58 PM

Maybe then they would have a spot in RPL. The truth is that this club does not play well with others. Is it not fair? Look at how you treat players and parents from your club. Who is going to go to bat for you?

Apparently in order to "play fair" every team from each state

No score for this post
July 3 2009, 6:45 PM

should have "equal chance" to play R3PL... instead of rewarding those that deserve to play and have earned the right to play based on past performance, rankings in SIC, final standings in previous seasons of R3, each state gets 3 teams regardless of their competiveness. So, for the other teams in R3, you can count on at least 3 games that will be a waste of your time and money, but you will increase your winning %... you know AFU would have given you a good, hard fought battle and everyone is better off playing a tougher team. But the R3 committee has seen to it that South Carolina has been treated "fairly" and it is my hope that every team who has earned the right to play in R3 won't hold back when playing these 3 South Carolina teams... bury them with goals to prove the point that 2 of those 3 teams aren't competitive enough to play R3. To exclude a good team that has always performed well is R3's loss.
