If select clubs paid as much as much as HS for refs...would it improve?

So, you think High School is better? I seen so pretty sloppy refs in high school. Some not much better. If they don't know how to call the calls it really doesn't matter how much they pay them. Believe it or not but there is a lot of high school refs that are not even cert, to ref soccer (clubs).

do not maintain certification for youth/club (GSSA/USSA) due to the excessive 'crap' from both sidelines. Factor in the needless costs for those who have other competing interests (see life), and you will begin to understand part of the problem. For your own information, there are many qualified referees in the college ranks or other levels that could easily cover little kids' games, but they do not. Did you ever wonder why?!

High School referees are not permitted to officate at games for their local area schools if they have a child, player or not, at that school. It's a conflict of interest. The same referee pool with cover a particular area (say Roswell, Alpharetta, Cumming, Cherokee)and due to the hours & travel, are generally adults & college students.
No one is perfect, so regarldless of the refs, you will never agree with every call. At high school games, spectators generally have a height advantage due to stadium seating. This affords a different perspective from that on the field. It would be great if and third or fourth official were able to work from the press box but it's not world cup soccer. Still and all, it's a rare spectator who actually knows the rules well enough to warrant shouting them from the stands...so sit down, behave yourself, and don't embarrass your kid. Besides, you're setting a poor example.

Paying the refs more would NOT improve the quality, because the quality of the refs are not the problem. The quality of the parents and spectators is the problem. People that have never taken any course, or more often people that have no idea that the rules for high school are different than club.
"You can't sub on corners" has been often heard. "They can only sub on their own throw" has been often heard.
"The ball never came in" has been heard from coaches wanting a retake of a throw in.
The set of rules for club is quite different than the rules for High School. Many parents can't distinguish between the two.... many more really have no idea of either.

From someone that has coached and seen both HS and club soccer I make the following observations. Club officials are BETTER. Probably b/c they require more extensive training and testing, but they also officiate a level of play and skill that is much higher than HS. Because of this there are much less fouls. I've seen entire halves in a club games with only a few fouls and none of them that bad b/c teams attempt to play possession and have high skill level. At the HS level the skill level is much lower and you also have a wider range age of kids playing (i.e. sometimes freshmen or sophomores w/ seniors, etc.). Maybe b/c of this HS play is MUCh more physical and I've seen multiple fouls that would undoubtedly get you sent off in any club game not even draw yellow cards in HS. Throw in the fact that many HS save $ by only requesting 2 officials or maybe request 3 officials but only get granted 3 b/c of the heavy match load in the ATL area means you have a 2 man crew, with less training, officiating a much more physical style of play. With that being said I still think HS officials are worse, but it's something you have to take w/ a grain of salt.
