My son is playing for a club team that the coach is also the high school coach where my son will be going to school this year. He is a rising 9th grader and has a chance at playing varsity. Is he allowed to play for this club coach this fall?

High schools have CONTACT rules about club coaches and certain grade specific contacts. Look it up before you try to get funny again.

if you play on the high school team with the same coach he risks getting himself and his school into trouble with GHSA- the high school rules makers.

That is the rule I was talking about! Someone told me that if he plays for the coach this fall he can't play for him in high school.

If the kid only plays JV at high school is that within the rules?

Coaches usually coach the opposite gender in club that they do in high school. Keeps things above board.

Don't think GHSA allows that any more either.

It's not the player that has the problem, it's the coach but since he picks both teams he

It's a dumb rule but best not to bring attention to your coach and school.

If your coach follows the rules or is worried about getting into trouble for bending them then yes your player can't now play high school.

The Rules is a High School Rule to prevent HS coaches from training year round

Take for example football

If the football coach can from a "club" team, he can train the kids year round. The High School rule is put in place to prevent this. In Soccer, the club leagues play a higher level of soccer than High School, so naturally all of the top players play club. If the coach happens to be the same coach a the high school, this is an unintentional violation of the rule.

Either change clubs or tell the coach he has to resign.

Wrong. Both are in violation of the rule. The only way it is possible is if the player is the son or step son of the coach. Gender does not matter. A high school boy's coach can not coach a girl from his HS in a club setting. Player would be ineligible and the coach will most likely be fined. Any game the kid plays in will be forfeited.

Would you want him as a role model if he wasn't up front in telling you about the problem.

It is against GHSA rules both school & coach would be in trouble. Tell me is it a school in Muscogee county? they have this problem with a private school there and needs to be addressed ASAP.
